I'm not saying they are soft or anything I was just wondering why all of Canada's players wear a visor and Kovalev and one Latvian guy are not wearing one?
I believe the younger generation don't mind wearing the visor because they are now used to it since visors are mandatory in juniors. As years advance, you'll see more and more Canadian wearing visors just like helmets. Remember the old days seeing Guy Lafleur's hair flying with the wind? Hehe, good memory.

But guys like Thornton,Walker,Fisher and Jovanovski don't wear visors usualy so why are they wearing one at this tournament? Is it something with insurance for Hockey Canada?? Anyhow I'm happy to see them wear visors because I'm sure they want to see their families grow up and play hockey.

Because Canadians are SMART simple as that. Visors can prevent some serious injuries. I applaud the Canadians if all of them are wearing one. They should be mandatory.

I'm willing to bet it's an insurance policy with Hockey Canada, as already mentioned.

Even if it's not I think they are smart to wear one. I played half of this season without a visor until I got a puck in the forehead so I decided I wanted to see my life so I bought one. Your eyes are too important. Some guys say you're soft if you wear one but who cares you simply want to keep your eyes.

If hockey players were smart, they would wear full masks.

I have always thought it mandatory in IIHF to wear a visor...it could be that a few players have signed a formal release from insurance liabilities in order to not play with a visor..but I'm only making a guess.

IIFH-Rulebook says:
224 - PLAYERS VISOR
Players born after December 31, 1974 shall wear, as a minimum, a visor that meets
approved international standards.
-> The visor shall extend down to cover the eyes and the lower edge of the nose in
frontal and lateral projections.

You don't think guys like Thornton would wear a visor if they don't have to, do you?

I don't know maybe they realised that their eyes are more important then not wearing a visor.

You have to sing some papers to iihf not to wear visor .... Or the same is with JJ68 and his old Jofa ... :yo:

He just happened to realize that before a tournament where they're mandatory for him? Unlikely.

NHL should grandfather in visors too

Is Ovechkin still wearing his RoboCop visor?

I think the next step in the evolution of the visor should be one where the reflection is that rainbow-like pattern (metallice blue, purple, orange, green, etc.) that is so popular with sunglasses. Wouldn't surprise me if Oakley comes out with something like that in the near future.

Here in Germany every player has to wear a visor and most players have problems with that. They have problems with there eyes in the games because of these visors. And not only tough guys say that so it is not because the players want to show their toughness.
If i would have the same problems i would also do not wear a visor. The players are adults so let them choose by themselves. They don't effect any opponent with that and i don't know many serious eye injures in hockey. Visors are also not as protective as many of you perhaps think. A player of my hometeam was hit by a slapshot and broke his bone over the eye (sorry don't know the english name for it and i'm too lazy to look it up). He weared a visor as he had to. Perhaps i find this pic of him. The ice was full of blood and he looked like a alien as he returned to the ice later in the game (that's though, eh ;)). But he wasn't to play any more in this playoffs and he had an operation.

Look what happened to Yzerman and Heatley!! A visor is a good idea.

Heatley wore visor in Switzerland as he was forced to. But his visor was well above the eyes when it doesn't protect anything.

I would not force players to wear visor, but I would recommend it. And if I played in NHL, I would wear a one.

And think about fighters with visors...
