Im Ok

Im ok with this only for a 'big enough' fish which would mean our championship window is all in now. Kane , JT? (even though we signed a center?)

I think this will be the line of thinking, either this summer or at the deadline.

Would not shock me if Trocheck gets the C. The fume on here would be funny if that happened.

He’s locked in. He’s close with Gallant. He knows what the expectations are.

Would be something.

Was with consensus when I first saw the deal. I like the player, but not the contract. However, looking at these deals for Ws (Lehk, Marchment, Mikheyev, Bura), I think Copp and Trocheck are looking like steals this year.

Exactly what matters to Drury is the next 3 - 4 years when our team is looking to win a cup with our top guys like Shesty, Zib, and Fox in their primes. Great deal imo!
also looming work stoppage in 2026 anyway. Who know what the cap landscape will look like

Came in under 6m because of the length, I've liked what I've seen from Trochek. The length sucks but thats the only way you were getting him under 6 per.

You know why Drury and other GMs don't seem to care about term?

...Jeff Gorton. SIX years as Rangers GM before the mercurial owner fired him.

With the position the franchise is in now, Drury knows they have to have playoff success over the next 3-5 years. If they don't, he knows that Trocheck's 6th and 7th year will be somebody else's mess to deal with. Unfortunately, us fans aren't so "lucky" as most fans have a contract with their team for life.

I would have preferred Malkin for 3 years BUT this shows Drury understands the assignment. I say that despite not liking Troschek deal past 3-4 years. Drury understands we still need much more toughness in our top 6, more inside the hashmark players, more faceoff wins and better defense. Still he was my 4th choice. I do not blame Drury. His hands are kind of tied by our cap. I do prefer him over Strome and Copp.
When previous decisions come back to bite you, this is what you get. It's easy to say go for it now figure the rest out later, but the figuring part usually ends up being

(a) Expensive (dumping Nemeth).
(b) Limited in options (Trochek).
(c) a perpetual cycle of problem fixing

I prefer Copp as a player, but Trochek is more of an actual C and more energetic/physical. I can see why Copp went to play in Detroit, and Trochek came to play under Gallant. Odds are Trochek will be the 3C in a couple of years time.

I don't get the sense that Drury settled for Trochek, seems like he was the guy they targeted all along.

I have zero concerns about term. This is the right time to buy a player at a lower AAV on a longer term. There is a good chance Trocheck takes up 5.625% of a 100M cap by the time this deal ends. Even better if there aren’t in clauses in place for the final few years.

This guy is an engine and can be a winning 2C for us.

Glad to have Vinny on the team.

He was certainly very noticeable against us in the PO's. I remember thinking, this is the type of center we need.

I love the player, the AVV, but no so much the term (like everyone else).

Is he now the best FO guy we have? According to Kocur....errr Uncle Larry - he is a 52.1% FO guy.

I like the signing. The term is tough, but I like the average salary, he fits the team like a glove, and is a nice complement to Zibanejad.

Zibanejad - Trocheck - Chytil - Goodrow is pretty damn good.

Sadly that is how things play out in the cap era. To go for it in the NHL cap era teams often have to look away from draft choices or make other tough decisions. That goes for us, Tampa, Colorado, Carolina, etc. Think TB loved trading a 1st for Goodrow? They didnt but they wanted to win. Colarado just won the cup and lose their goalie. The cap really has made the game a gigantic monopoly board instead of being about hockey. In the old days it was about drafting and trading for the best team. You could let them grow together. The cap changes everything. It was almost a miracle for TB to win 2 in a row. We are not going to see a Islanders winning 4 in a row or Edmonton winning 5. The cap will not allow it. I like Troc but he was my 4th choice. Now if we can take advantage of Chicago lets add Kane for a year and really move our chips in to the middle. These windows open and close fast. It took McKinnon 9 years to win and 3 years from now they will say he is too old.
