When he was acquired from the Philadelphia Flyers, no one expected much from veteran center Vincent Lecavalier. But with the LA Kings, he has been a definite upgrade at the third-line center position, giving them a better option in the face-off circle and some offense. He's even getting power play and penalty-kill time—he's exceeded expectations.

Lecavalier spoke with Frozen Royalty about exceeding those expectations this morning. Read all about it at...

Feel-good story. I always enjoy reading stories about Vinny.

“I mean, I’m playing on the penalty-kill,†added Lecavalier. “I haven’t really done that in awhile. I’m not on it all the time, but sometimes I am.

“It’s a style of play, it’s a commitment,†he noted. “First of all, here, if you don’t [play defense], you don’t play. Everybody is playing the same way. It doesn’t matter if your name is [Anze] Kopitar, [Jeff] Carter—all these guys are thinking defense first. If those two guys are playing that way, everybody’s going to follow. Coming here, I’m doing the same thing. I follow these guys. They’ve had success, and I want to win and be part of it. You have to do it.

I have to think Sutter putting Vinny on the penalty kill helped get him into the defense mindset.

Thanks, Gann. Happy Easter, everyone!

I love Vinny, he was my favorite player going up. Glad to see him do well out of crappy Philly, even if he made a few mistakes last night, he's been solid overall. hopefully he helps us bring us a cup.

Mistakes happen, Vinny has been very good for the Kings bottom six, and awesome on the PP.

roger that, mistakes happen and it will be interesting to see how he plays tonight , kicking butts and taken names or hesitant , with his career I am betting on the kicking butts vinny coming out tonight
