Wish we found a way to dump some useless cap instead then lose a valuable, young piece like Carrier.

But given our G depth (Lehner being the only solid goalie, Ullmark being the only solid prospect since Cal Petersen won't sign with us - we couldn't lose Ullmark too)

Great deal. Carrier and a 6th rounder for Ullmark, which is essentially what happened, is a deal i would take every day of the week.

Carrier was gonna be their pick anyway. So good on them for getting something for nothing. Alot of Buffalo fans liked Carrier.

Ullmark can be sent down to the AHL without having to pass through waivers. Trust me, Vegas wanted that badly.

I thought so too, but it would've probably cost a 2nd rounder+ to dump one of them.

Even with Ennis and moulson on the books the sabres have plenty of cap space, and lots of wing prospects to replace carrier. Maybe we'll get lucky and Ennis can regain some value with under a new coach.

Haven't seen Bogo play since he went to Buf. Is he that bad that he couldn't even be given away for free?:amazed:

He was a literal mess in his own end the second half of this past season. getting outworked, bad position on terrible goals, errant passes out of his own end. Makes me miss Tyler Myers, cause as bad a Tyler could be, he was never 2016 BOGO bad.

Carrier had the makings to be a solid 3rd/4th line forward long term.

Also, i really think Carrier was exposed, so he would be taken. The Sabres could have easily exposed Ennis instead. Ennis was concussion injury prone, barely healthy this season, and making 4 million+ for one more year. Vegas wouldn't have took him. It made no sense for Sabres to protect him over someone like Carrier.

So it's not like the Sabres JUST gave Vegas a 6th for staying away from Ullmark. The Sabres intentionally exposed Carrier as bait for Vegas.

Don't think Vegas was planning on it anyways so they just took what they could get.

Buffalo could have protecting him and exposed ullmark. Buffalo wouldn't have had anything but Ullmark so he would have been the one vegas selcted.

Btw he still has 1 yr of waiver exemption.

With Cal Peterson choosing to turn UFA instead of sign with Buffalo, there was no way they could lose Ullmark too. Ullmark and Peterson are our top 2 goaltender prospects. They can't lose both in a matter of weeks. Especially if the rumors are true that they're not too high on Lehner...

So it cost us Carrier and a 6th to protect a guy who was named the best goaltender in the Sweedish Elite league a couple years ago and was an AHL all star this year.

Bylsma's system did not do him any favors. He looked brutal most of last season. Hopefully Housely can get him looking decent again.

I still don't understand why Buffalo protected Ennis over Carrier. Definitely don't understand Ullmark was worth a solid young player who kept Deslauriers out of the line-up and a pick to them.

Well the Knights are almost at the cap right now. Of course there's going to be more movement, but regardless his cap hit was too big and his inability to stay healthy is a problem. No point in taking that burden of a contract.

Carrier + 6th for Ullmark, in an expansion draft where sparing exposed players came at a premium, isn't so bad.

I liked Carrier, a lot of Buffalo fans did. He showed promise and good underlying stats for a young guy in limited minutes on a bad team. Vegas picked up a solid bottom 6 guy that plays with some grit and skates like the wind. He's NOT much more than that though... as hilariously as some frantic Sabres fans yesterday tried to spin some stats to put him on a similar level as Eichel. I think the term "franchise winger" was thrown around a bit.

We don't have a single pro goaltender in the system after Lehner if Ullmark were gone... no less a young one with potential, that's waiver exempt.

IMO, you make that deal and don't look back. Sabres got off easy.

Is Ullmark even more than a C+ goalie prospect?
He spent some time in the NHL on the Sabres during the tank years during Lehner's initial stretches of injury, and generally speaking he didn't embarrass himself. There's value in that. In all likelihood he'll be our AHL starter next year (and decent to good one at that) and first in line if Lehner, or whatever cheap backup we sign, goes down.
