What would NYI want for Varlamov at 50% retention? If Toronto can somehow can get rid of Mrazeks contract I feel like Varly and Soup would be a great tandem. If retention isn't possible, what would NYI want for him at full cap?

I think if the isles were to trade Varly they would want to do so with his full cap. I know that’s not great for the leafs. He’s a legit starter and proven playoff performer. He’s got 1 year left. I would do a 2nd round pick straight up. With retention I think there would need to be an add.

Varly won’t ok Toronto the same way he won’t ok Edmonton. If he does, picks like what was stated above.

Lou values goaltending very highly and would only create a hole there if he was filling a big hole someplace else (top 4 LHD or top line wing). I'm sure TOR isn't moving Marner for a package, and not sure what Lou thinks of Nylander or Sandin. There's probably no deal between the teams as a result.

Don’t think NYI makes him available but if they were too it would require a top 32 pick or two top 64 picks in my opinion.

so just because he wouldn't OK Edmonton you automatically think he woulsn't OK Toronto?

Toronto has a good reputation with Russian players I think there is a good chance he would approve a trade here

Lou does value goaltending very high but he wouldn't ask for R=Nylander or Sandin he's still realistic and he knows that's not real

I’m talking more so the shelling the media in Toronto gives the players. It’s a tough market for guys to go into and play with success. He seems to enjoy his quiet lifestyle on Long Island vs Toronto.

but if he won here he'd be treated like a god.

That's the thing, the team that finally ends the cup drought will be untouchable, they won't pay for a meal, a drink, a car, a house, a video game system, ANYTHING ever again in their lives

statues will be built

schools will be named after them.

if he won here I will say again he would be seen as a god that's not a joke or hyperbolic either.

Now he's not my first choice because of his contract status, that's Gibson

but he would be a welcome addition

Can't see the Islanders retaining unless they get over market value. He's a great 1ab goalie.

I think you are selling him short. He is a legit top 15 starter in the league. Sorokin is better at this point, but that doesnt take anything away from Varlamov.

To
Toronto
Varlamov
Mayfield
1st 2022 (13th overall)

To
Islanders
Nylander
Sandin
1st 2022 (26th-28th overall)

Isles get a 1st line 80 point winger a late 1st and a potential top 4 LD. Leafs get a starting goalie, top 4 RD and 13th overall. Both isles players would need to want to resign but I think the trade helps both teams.
