Hey all, flames fan coming in peace. I'll be in Vancouver this weekend for JDC West, and I'm just wondering a few things about the city. I've never been to Vancouver, but I know we're staying downtown (at the Marriott?).

What things can I do downtown? What are some of the better clubs and bars? Are there areas I should stay away from?

Thank you in advance!

Irish Bar - Blarney Stone (in gastown)
Busiest club - Roxy (on the main drive - granville st)
I like steamworks in gastown too for appies and drinks

yaletown has the ritsy places to eat/drink

East van is the lousy area of Van.

I suggest making the extra drive up to whistler this time of year. Its not near downtown but if youre going to come to bc at this time of year, might as well make the best of it. Its worth it to rent a car for a day and go

Whistler has a great village... great clubs, places to eat and drink and watch the game, also amazing snowboarding/skiing.

Pack your credit cards if you're making the trip to Whistler.

Grab a copy of the Georgia Straight. It's a free weekly paper that comes out on thursdays; has all the club, bar, restaurant, movie and entertainment listings. There's a million websites out there with all the touristy stuff; won't be very crowded or overpriced at this time of year.

That should be plenty for a weekend downtown.

Oh, and pm Wetcoaster for info on restaurants if you get stuck. He's got an encyclopedia on the subject.
