So you're comparing past management decisions to the current one. Kuz, Bear and Beauvillier have looked good so far. Ilya was good too before shutting it down and that was on a torn ACL.

Current management decisions are consistent with past management ones - this isn't a fresh new script, but a continuation of the problems that led them down this point in the first place; this half-assed, retool now instead of rebuild approach, hasn't worked. It rarely ever works across the league, unless you have a very strong core already in place.

Beauvillier & Bear are easily replaceable guys. Mikheyev & Kuzmenko are nice finds, but you don't blow high value assets for guys unless they are either elite, or you're in a win-now window.

And we know they aren't in a win-now window, because they are sat 27th in the league, and are trying to move guys like Demko, Boeser, and JTM.

He doesn't need a new contract until after next season when we'll have 33 mill in cap space.

How he'll fit is my concern aswell, though I don't think he's a mess defensively. Basically if he's a #3D this is good, if he's more its great, if he's worse its bad.

the problem is that we bought high and now will have to re-sign him at a high as well, this isn’t the way. We needed those picks just as bad as we need a RD man, we need good ELC players and you only get them by being patient and drafting them. Hronek was a 2nd round pick, this is the way draft we’ll develop and sell them at a high and rinse and repeat.

We need to bookmark this thread because there are going to be SOOOOOO many bad takes in here - it's going to be hilarious.

Canucks fans: YOU HAVENT IMPROVED THE DEFENSE AT ALL WHAT ARE YOU DOING??? MORE WINGS???

Canucks go out and acquire a 25 year old #2/3 RD that's cost controlled.

Same Canucks fans today: OMG THIS TRADE IS A DIASSTER WOW FIRE ALLVIN

Toxic ass fanbase.

just for the record and fairness, we didn't throw in a 2nd. We moved back from the 2nd to a 4th. Still get the magic bean, it's just going to be roughly 70 picks later.

Wonder if this was the big deal we were hearing about yesterday?

I'll say this, and I know it won't be popular, but it's not outrageous to think this team could be turned around relatively quickly. Offensively, they are already in the mix. This team doesn't have a problem scoring goals.

The goaltending has been abominable and their defense is swiss cheese. If Hronek pans out, that's a massive upgrade for the defense. They still need a couple more guys but buying out OEL would give them money to sign someone this summer.

Of course, they need Demko to regain his form and get him an NHL caliber backup. But there IS a path to getting really good in a short period of time.

There's no utopia. Good youngish RHD's don't grow on trees, and come at no cost, and come on a hometown discount deal. Myers is gone by then, if we are paying him Myers money & he's actually good then that's fine.

We need good RH defenseman that can be here for awhile, Hronek fits that profile so we'll see.

I hate this deal so much. Not cause it's an overpay (it's par compared to similar deals) but because it makes zero sense for us.

Hronek is a good player. But he's not an upgrade...at defending. He's more of an offensive/PP specialist. Half of his points this season are on the PP - and we know he's not supplanting Hughes on the Canucks PP.

He's not even really a "puck-moving" defenseman because he's not great at exiting the zone with control. He's not great at retrieving the puck under pressure. He's very poor at defending in transition. These things are all major weaknesses of the Canucks which Hronek doesn't fill.

Team that has the worst RD depth in the league goes out and acquires a 25 year old cost controlled #2/3 RD.

Canucks fans: "THIS MAKES ZERO SENSE THO"
It's more that we have no cap space and we would be better served keeping our first round picks in a deep draft. It's possible he pans out and anchors the right side for years to come but we really aren't a team that should give away first round picks at this point.

Fair complaints are, the price is high. The Islanders pick is very likely to be a solid pick. Furthermore, the 2nd rounder will be a high 2nd round pick in a deep draft.

This puts the Nucks already over the cap where there are still multiple holes to fill. Hronek is an RFA next season which could be a problem.

My first reaction to this trade was to check the calendar to make sure it wasn’t April 1st.
Drancers looks absolutely crushed. Anyone with sense and logic probably reacted the same way today.

Gotta get away from this toxic relationship (me and Canucks)

I was really looking forward to seeing the Sedins help turn that first round and second round draft pick into something amazing.
