LOL this is a move purely to compete for the playoffs again next year. They just can't accept that this team is garbage. The Horvat/Schenn trades gave a little hope but this almost eliminates all that good will.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

I don’t really care what the ‘charts’ say. This is how the front office identified him. Whether they’re right or wrong will be determined how he plays within Tocchet’s system.

If he was just a PP specialist who was bad defensively do you think the FO would have spent such a high price on him?
With the number of pro scouting blunders this organization has conducted lately, is there any particular reason why you're giving them any benefit of the doubt?

Their talent evaluation methods identified both OEL and Myers as good bets.

Who in their right minds would watch Detroit games enough to know? I do remember watching him as a rookie or sophomore and thinking he looked like a Quinn Hughes lite.

i lived in ann arbor/detroit (okay technically canton) for most of hronek's career. i've seen a ton of him

Yeah, they have to be buying out OEL. I know the savings is minimal in years three and four of the buyout but Myers will already be off the books, Boeser will come off the books that summer and Garland will only have one year remaining on his deal.

I'm talking myself off the ledge with this deal as long as they buyout OEL.

Surely the Canucks have to closing in on some sort of dubious record for lottery teams.

They've now traded a first rounder in 2020; 2021 and 2023. And they've traded a second rounder in 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Earth to the Canucks......if you finish in the lottery every year, holding on to picks actually matters.

On the price;

EDM paid a 1st, 4th & a top prospect (last year's 1st) for Ekholm who's 32 with 3 years left.

NYI paid the 13th pick last year for Alex Romanov. Which is about where this pick is slated to be, if not a little higher than our pick.

Hronek is 25 & under club control. We all loved having another 1st but the price compared to the market isn't really that horrible.

yea but we’re already f***ed with the cap and he needs a new big shinny contract. Is he really the defensive D man we’re in need of? Outside of age and being a RD he doesn’t seem like the right guy, he’s a mess defensively and that’s our biggest problem

OEL isn’t going anywhere. I see Boeser, Garland and Myers being moved in the offseason, Myers should have value after his bonuses are paid out.

Yesterday you thought, hey maybe there is a plan going forward based on some smart moves by PA. Today a Nuclear fart. This is the worst trade since Neely. The team had 2 picks in the first rd and both likely to be top 15 or better. But no total incompetence from a gm with an IQ in double digits about hockey and the NHL. Plus he gives a 2nd rd for nothing. Real Jack Gordon/Jim Benning stuff. Fire his A$$.

So you're comparing past management decisions to the current one. Kuz, Bear and Beauvillier have looked good so far. Ilya was good too before shutting it down and that was on a torn ACL.

Exactly lmao.

We have people that haven't watched him play more than 10 games trying to make an educated opinion on him.

By all indicators, Hronek took a massive leap this year and is playing at a top pairing level. If he's a top pairing defenseman, this trade's a HUGE win. If he's just a #3 or #4, trade is likely a loss but still fills a huge need.

He doesn't need a new contract until after next season when we'll have 33 mill in cap space.

How he'll fit is my concern aswell, though I don't think he's a mess defensively. Basically if he's a #3D this is good, if he's more its great, if he's worse its bad.

They can trade those guys AND buyout OEL. They cannot keep that dead weight on the roster and cap going forward.

I tend to think the NYI 1st this year is probably more valuable than the entire package EDM paid for Ekholm.

Aman has been a find out of nowhere, Joshua has turned out to be very good. They've done alright so far I'll give them the benefit for now.
