Hey, if we had Weisbrod on here, who's to say I'm not a mysteriously quiet swedish general managerAlot of fun things to imagine, like having two first round draft picks.

I think Hronek is a better player and a right shots….still don’t like the trade though.
So he's got a pretty good hit rate on being right then lolIt’s really not. You keep bitching about every single move so don’t even![]()
Literally nothing wrong with this trade but go onHe's testing out the broken clock theory
Let him cook
I’ve always viewed Chychrun as a low iq toolsy defensemen. Not a fan. In no way am I defending this trade however. It’s just another short cut and the team will clearly never rebuild. This was a Petterson driven trade to some extent I’m sureI think if you'd ask NHL GM's and pro scouts this question, your opinion would be in the minority
He’s improved..it’s not because this is an outlier of a season lol. He’s 25Hronek is only on pace for 52 points this season and has never flirted anywhere near 50 prior. Last season was his best at 38 in 78. While a solid enough player, he's not good defensively which is a massive weakness on our blueline. He also gets a lot of powerplay minutes, something he won't have here with Quinn being ahead of him.
Well and if people read that link.
"Hronek will not play Saturday versus the Canadiens.
Hronek isn't listed with any injury, so it's possible head coach Jeff Blashill is sitting the 23-year-old after he went minus-2 in an ugly 3-0 loss to the Flames on Thursday. If Hronek is hurt, there should be some information about him after the game -- if not, consider this a healthy scratch for the young Czech defenseman."
I guess he was not hurt it sounds like? But we need more information on this. Blashill also got fired.
Not only that but Colorado got Toews for four years at $4.1M. We’ll get Hronek for 1 year at $4M before he’ll be looking at $7M longterm. Terrible value.
I mean, a lot of those pieces you mentioned (Kadri, Lekhonen, Nichuskin, etc.) were either players acquired when or broke out when they were already roughly a contender, right?Hronek basically has to be Toews+ in order for the Canucks to be even close to being anywhere near a contender in these next three years.
Sure, we have Pettersson who is maybe close to MacKinnon. Miller who produces (for now) somewhat like Rantanen. Hughes ~= Makar. Demko was (is?) better than any goalie the Avs have had since Roy, and makes up for some of the gaps in the previous comparisons.
And then the comps start to fall short. We have nothing resembling the skill and ability of Landeskog, Kadri, Byram, Nichushkin, Lekhonen, etc.
That's the problem. As others have said, even if this is the JT Miller trade - an absolute pro scouting coup - is that enough? Hronek is obviously an NHL'er, so it sets a floor, but that NYI pick might legit offer a chance at a player like Michkov. That honestly feels like the only path the Canucks could have had out of perpetual mediocrity, and we've now slammed that door shut.
If this was following a Boeser for POJ + 2nd trade, maybe we could feel better. But as it stands, the team next year is most likely headed for a 20th place finish with the same stale, overpriced core.
here's another link that shows he was a healthy scratch for both that game and the next: Daily Faceoff
Which is what makes passing on Marino this past offseason so frustrating.Yes this is a huge complaint of mine. If he was signed for long term at his current cap hit, then great. If they can extend him out at the same rate then I'm fine with that. So, kind of like the Horvat trade, a lot needs to go right for this to go well.
Same herei might be stuck with this avatar for a long time now.
my point was that if he was consistently being scratched for poor defensive play throughout the season, then sure, maybe it's of concern. but two games of being scratched, and a pretty solid 3 months to start this year should indicate that it's not necessarily a pattern, especially on a development curve.here's another link that shows he was a healthy scratch for both that game and the next: Daily Faceoff
