We went from 7 to 6. CloseI knew it was too good to be true when people kept saying we had 7 picks in the first 4 rounds this draft… lmao

Detroit has Seider who is also a top pairing RHD.Could you not apply this same logic to Hronek playing on shit Detroit teams?
OEL was a stud, injuries ruined him
The copium in here is out of control.
You also get the privilege of giving him a big UFA contract after next season! Not surprising some over the top takes and overrating draft picks.
Hronek is not a bad outcome for a mid 1st, actually its a very good outcome. And you don't have to wait years and the timeline aligns much better with the core.
The question is how he fits on this team, with Hughes, he'll have to carry his own 2nd pairing and offer mostly EV production. He's also not overly big and I wouldn't say great defensively.
Its more realistic they trade for his buddy Kevin Hayes.I think it's crazy to expect Miller to be traded.

It's funny, because if we did get that Pettersson POJ deal, we'd have this on D:We went from celebrating a potential Boeser for Pettersson heist and hoping the Canucks play 3rd team broker in deals to this.
Unreal mood swing lol
No no bald Benning says he's a two way beast.people are overselling hronek here. he was healthy scratched last season for being awful defensively: Red Wings' Filip Hronek: Sitting out Saturday
I'd argue that Hronek has played in a much more stable environment this year than Chychrun has in years.
And Chychrun to my eye is much more reliable defensively and someone I'd be okay with lining up against top lines, freeing up Hughes on his own pair. Hronek is not a guy I'd want defending against top lines.
and he takes the harder minutes, if anything that helped HronekDetroit has Seider who is also a top pairing RHD.
was him being scratched on october 23rd 2021 indicative of a pattern of bad defensive play for the entire season?people are overselling hronek here. he was healthy scratched last season for being awful defensively: Red Wings' Filip Hronek: Sitting out Saturday

Alot of fun things to imagine, like having two first round draft picks. It's funny, because if we did get that Pettersson POJ deal, we'd have this on D:
Hughes-Bear
Pettersson-Hronek
Wolanin-POJ? POJ-Wolanin? Idk if either of them can play off-handed.
That'd be a hell of a lot better. I don't think we were ever getting those pieces for Boeser, let alone both, so it's a pipe dream. But fun to imagine.
I would rather trade a 15th OA pick for a good NHL player than trade a 25th OA pick for an AHL player. I’m not sure that’s even debatable.lundqvist is a worse player but the dallas pick is significantly worse than the islanders pick. arguably it was expected to be even worse when dallas traded it
Ya Chych is better, and bigger, and a year younger, but has had more injury issues and is a leftie and contract not as good. Plus they paid significantly more — mostly the Ott 1st is better, also its +a 2nd and minus a 4th, so easy on the hyperbole there….
Hronek was absolutely blowing up early this year, stole the spotlight from Seider … he is a solid young RHD with upside, i actually thought he would be untouchable for them (despite their and his recent troubles overall.)
I get it ppl want a full rebuild, but that aint happening with EP and QH here, and this is what this is — EP lube, to get him to hang around and sign here. Yeah we couldve had a Reinbacher of someone …but by the time they mature EP likely gone. So now we have the best young RHD we’ve had since i dunno, Edler(?) not another dino in their 30s. So recoup draft capital with Boeser or (more hopefully) Miller trade and we’re in much better shape, esp if we dump Myers this summer.
Thank you for your perspective of stuff i don’t know about. It's actually really interesting. Perception - and I include myself in this - is that Chychrun is worth WAY more than Hronek.
But they're the same age from the same draft, basically identical production, same cap hit, same TOI, both have some defensive questions (we've heard reports in the last day or so that concerns about Chychrun's defense were limiting his value), Hronek is more physical, Hronek is a RHS. Chychrun is bigger and has more pedigree.
Now, I'd be happier as an Ottawa fan with their trade, obviously. But I don't think the difference between these players is quite as huge as being made out.
Because those don’t help you compete next seasonBelleavuier

Lundqvist

And without Miller, we'd be even worse. In contention for Bedard with our pick.
What could have been. A real shot at Bedard, four 1sts over a 2 year period, 3 good prospects, and a good young roster player.
Why on earth did we not do this
was him being scratched on october 23rd 2021 indicative of a pattern of bad defensive play for the entire season?
I think that was more about pumping and dumping those two, but time will tell. I've read that private analytic models are actually high on Chychrun defensively and eye test wise he's always looked fine defensively to me.Their usage has actually tended toward the opposite. JJ Moser and Josh Brown play the high-leverage defensive minutes for Arizona and Chychrun and Gostisbehere are given the creamy offensive minutes.
Two separate pairings is one option and trying to tilt the ice with an ultra-skilled Makar-Toews pairing is the other option. I imagine both will be tried.
Playing with Toews instead of some big defensive guy certainly hasn't held back Makar, and quite the exact opposite.
Well and if people read that link.was him being scratched on october 23rd 2021 indicative of a pattern of bad defensive play for the entire season?
It’s really not. You keep bitching about every single move so don’t evenThis is like year ten of you making a statement like this and the team/players consistently do worse than what you try and high and mighty about lmao
Not only that but Colorado got Toews for four years at $4.1M. We’ll get Hronek for 1 year at $4M before he’ll be looking at $7M longterm. Terrible value. One big difference is that Toews has top notch numbers at preventing controlled zone entries and at exiting the zone with possession, which helps Makar keep the puck moving in the right direction and not have to spend too much time defending.
Hronek grades out quite poorly on both measures, so it’s not clear he will help Hughes the same way.
