Woof. Seems bad for both sides. I don't get this rationale at all.

We, the fanbase, seem to be panicking, wanting to offload anything we think has value. Miller, Boeser and Pettersson are all popular targets.

Until Benning is fired though, any move will be a "win now" move though, except for the most impactful move, dumping our junk pile of a coaching staff.

Texier and a 1st for Miller, a player they might not even be able to resign. Dear god. These boards, that's no underpayment. That Columbus 1st should end up a pretty high pick. Miller with 1 year left returning that doesn't seem like bad value for Vancouver especially with cap implications.

Is Texier presently a PPG+ player? Because until Benning is removed, everything he is going to do is focused on "getting to the playoffs" to continue his employment, which is still a legitimate goal in his mind.

He projects as a top 6 C and that pick could end up a lotto pick. Seems like a smart move for Vancouver.

I get not wanting to move Petterson or Boeser, but why as a non contender hold Miller when I've seem many Canucks on this board say you might not be able to afford his next contract.

I'm assuming you'd like to see him moved and the young talent retained but Benning, correct?

Yes, he projects to be what we have in Miller. As for the pick, a lot can happen in a year.

If you can get rid of Benning, then we can talk about it being a deal that could/should happen. The, uh, ding dong, is going to do every thing he can to hold on to his gig, including salting the earth if it improves his odds.

Not to do with the trade proposal specifically, I'm not sold on the value of potential though. Virtanen and Juolevi are perfect examples of potential that has been wasted being developed in our system of late. It's why I always enjoy the first few posts in a confirmed trade thread for a rental or deadline pick up, being that people can't believe a proven asset returned a great deal of future assets.

He hasn't been standing wise for Vancouver so technically I don't see him a difference marker for Bluejackets

Columbus would be replacing Texier - a player with 3 points in 10 games - with a player who has 15 points in 13 games, and you don't think that makes the Blue Jackets a more competitive team?

Slightly better sure but not enough to make a big difference in the standings. I stand by that. Miller or Texier I don't see them suddenly jumping up in their division standings. Miller, he's not that guy pal.

I mean Miller got another point tonight but his team lost 7-1.

It's too early for Vancouver to give it up for futures and it's too early for Columbus to push in its chips. If the standings still look like this nearer the deadline, we can come back to this. Even then it would be hard to imagine Columbus making this trade unless they have some idea that they can get Miller on a good long term deal. And then also have some idea that Miller is going to be the right add, which I don't know about. I have a feeling that he'll keep scoring a lot but I don't know if he's actually that good of a player overall. The team already has some forwards that fit that description.

Texier did not look like a center when he was there earlier this year. Looks more comfortable playing a power game on the wing.

I'd do this trade from Canucks POV if the team will be this shitty all year.

Miller is from Ohio too is he not?

JT is a good player and CLB needs a center, so I kinda get it. Texier and Angle I dont mind moving. However, there is no point in trading a 1st round pick for 28 year old during a rebuild. CB J are unlikely to make the playoffs, and the pick could easily end up being in the 5-10 range.

I think the value is fair but I do not think Columbus is in a position to trade a 1st round pick for an impending free agent.

If Columbus were to be able to re-sign JT Miller, that means they also have the opportunity to sign him out of free agency. Which means it makes sense to just wait. And if they don't have much of a chance of signing Miller out of free agency, then it doesn't make sense to give up a 1st for him.

I think the CBJ are a borderline team (might make the playoffs, might not) and with JT we would have a better chance. But it would take something special for the team to win the cup even with JT. It's probably in CBJs best interest (both short & long term) to have two lottery tickets for the Wright sweepstakes.

To Columbus Blue Jackets
JT Miller

To Vancouver Canucks
Alexandre Texier
Tyler Angle
2022 1st round pick

That is terrible for Columbus.

I assume that first is lottery protected or goes to a 2nd rounder. That’s the only way Columbus should consider this.
