Speculation: Value of Broberg & Holloway’s next contracts

That’s a great point actually, it could make sense to wait a few months into the season to make sure Holly is the same player we saw this year.
One of the biggest hurdles post-injury is the mental one. If he's not gunshy after recovery, I think physically he'll be fine.

Holloway appears to be gearing up for another contract negotiation…

And perhaps didn’t like the direction his previous agent was taking him? Idk.

I’m confident the Blues can find something mutually appealing that is better than what an arbitrator would award. I believe those awards can only be 1 or 2 years, and the Blues can offer term to provide for-life security most guys couldn’t pass up, especially if he’s in a place he loves.

Who’s talking arbitration? He has another year left on his deal. Wouldn’t even be able to file for arbitration until July 5, 2026. This to me signals he’s wanting to negotiate an extension this summer. I doubt they ever get anywhere near arbitration.

His previous agent was pretty inexperienced with only 2 clients and Holloway being the biggest. His new agent has multiple big name clients. Josi, Matthews, McDavid, Werenski, Pesce, Garland, Geekie brothers, etc.

And his former agent got sucked into the offer sheet game by Broberg's agent who is ruthless. I am sure his agent said that at the price point he will sign for the Oilers will match his and likely let Broberg walk. He was shocked when the Oilers never matched. Has to be hard to watch watching the playoffs knowing he could have been back to the finals again and likely would have played a bigger role.

I think he's probably alright with how things turned out. He blossomed into a legitimate top 6 guy here - barring the injury - securing a career in the NHL, which was pretty up in the air with how younger first rounders had been panning out in Edmonton. He also joined a young core which he can be an integral part of and compete while trying to build something special. I don't really think he would've gotten the opportunity in Edmonton and even if he did he'd always be 2nd fiddle to a linemate instead of being viewed as a pretty dynamic duo with Kyrou.

Sounds like a lot of cope.

He’s been talking about how happy he is since the day he got here, and already said he’d like to sign long-term here. He’s probably the smiliest guy on the team so I believe him. We gave him a great opportunity, he seized it and broke out, and is surrounded by lots of up and coming players around his age. He’s likely to get an 8-year deal with us within the next 12 months. So yeah, I don’t think he’s weeping that he’s setting himself up for life. As a 23-year old, he has plenty of time to win a Cup.

Funny he didn't say anything like that in his interview with Strickland over the summer. He basically said he didn't hear anything from the Oilers even though he wasn't really asking for that much. Doubt he regrets leaving the team that didn't make him feel wanted at all.

The Oilers management only has themselves to blame. How do you know Holloway and/or Broberg wouldn't have been traded for veteran help at some point? There are no guarantees in this league.

I guess he strongly felt compelled to come over here and post some drunken ramblings on some made up shit.

But his post has the potential to become a mystery novel with Holly being shocked and how their game theory failed and blah blah blah

I'm sure there is a degree of jealousy and "what if" in his brain, but he knows with 99.9% of certainty that he wouldn't have played nearly the role in Edmonton that he got here. He might have gotten a bigger role than what he had last year, but there is no reality where his role would have been anything close to the role he had here. And his performance in the role we gave him is going to make him tens of millions of dollars more than he would have gotten succeeding in Edmonton.

Everyone wants to win the Cup. But the move to St. Louis is genuinely going to increase his career earnings by $25M+ over his financial ceiling in Edmonton. Probably more.

Is it still hard for them to watch?
