Seemingly on the outs in Carolina. Has a hefty contract (7 mil per for another 3 years I believe).

Still a talented player, just in a bad environment. Given that KO is out for a bit and we've always needed a LW, if Carolina was willing to retain 1.5 mil per (make it a 5.5 AAV), would anyone else (besides me) think it's logical to acquire him?

KO will be back before the playoffs and should get some regular season action to get back in the swing of things. We finally have the depth to withstand injuries and to important players... no interest in Semin or Vanek or any big ticket forwards.

Very good CF player, but a lot of injuries. He misses so much time, and that's a lot of money.

Nope. Our lineup is full and if Tuesday night is any indication, we can still roll 4 lines. We have a total of one pick in the first two rounds of the next two drafts. Lets hold on to our futures at this point.

We're in a good spot. Unless a real game-changer who happens to be locked in becomes available(think Vlasic), I'd just sit tight and let the season play out. Maybe bring in a backup if you really think it's necessary, but nothing else IMO. With how this team has played, I'm willing to see how they fare as-is in the postseason.

We had our learning experience in 2013; we addressed our goaltending issue; we added a ton of depth to our lineup and brought in guys with Cup winning pedigrees. I'm optimistic about our chances.

Semin is right below Clarkson in my list of "what the Islanders need" - Yashin and Satan (the player) are slightly ahead of both.

Isles need NOTHING at the deadline, except a back-up goalie, ideally someone with playoff experience, maybe a depth defenseman though Strait's been really solid of late.

Why do we need to take on a huge contract to solve a problem that will solve itself in a couple months? Semin is just dead wood right now, something we don't have and certainly isn't something we need.

no thanks....id still like to add a bottom pairing dman though....i am planning on vis not being healthy for the playoffs.....one more injury on top of that makes us one of the weaker teams in the playoffs instantly

There is still talent there. I think he is still banged up a bit. Peters also has used him poorly and then put him in his doghouse. Peters can't seem to figure out what to do with Skinner either.

Also I dont think Carolina would retain much salary, their ownership is not rolling in dough.

But I can't see Semin here and I'm not sure that we would want him for free...

Billion dollar shot, .10 effort. No thanks. Not messing with the chemistry.

Definitely not. Bring in Semin to be our highest paid player?

No need to help someone in our division out of a bad contract and a salty under-performing player. Dude has 1 goal.

I would love Skinner. I remember him and JT in the world championships a few years ago - they were magic together.

But I say the Isles need nothing. I would only add a backup goalie and maybe a depth defenseman. Giving up nothing.

I can't even think of an Islander I don't want in the lineup right now. I'm even happy with Strait's play.

His effort level is a zero - even if the Canes are a mediocre team, there is no excuse for that. He would not fit in here at all.

His coach's belief in him is zero. I think he would be insulated nicely by our locker room, but with his contract and recent injury history, Carolina would have to pay a team to take on Semin.

Also, I'm laughing at the "highest paid player" nonsense. A.) Snow didn't sign Semin to that contract, and B.) Snow offered Vanek right around 7M per

The point I made had less to do with the old crap of "no one can make more than Tavares". It was more along the fact of emphasizing how ridiculous his contract is versus his production. I wouldn't care if we brought in Ovie and his salary given his production. It was more like... we are going to bring in a contract that is going to handcuff the crap out of us for someone with 1 friggin goal?

He s having an awful season while making $7m. Can we quit tossing all the blame on the front office/coaching/teammates and simply say the player is putting in a crappy, uninspired effort which greatly contributes to his team's struggles?

When you play like a zero, your coach's belief in you will be zero. No thank you..
