How has Dick looked
Gradey's style is to play off teammates. When those teammates don't create any space or open looks off movement, this type of player tends to stagnate. As expected, Trent and Porter don't get many good shot opportunities either.

Again, the roster construction is terrible here.

Nobody is disagreeing with this. Our team is set up that management needs to either re-sign guys (Trent, Siakam, OG) or trade them this year.

What we've seen the last few games continues the idea that all 3 of these guys can help a contender far more than they can help the Raptors (because they aren't fits).

Exactly. They should have got value back at the deadlines previously as well but did nothing. Was it Masai or was it ownership? Who knows.

They lost FVV and it's debatable anyone was giving up anything for him. Not saying the Raptors should or should not sell/rebuild/retool but the most valuable assets are still around and haven't been lost yet. The criticism of the team and construction is valid most of the time, the Poeltl trade is TBD but with him being resigned.. he can be moved to regain assets used to acquire him. They have a ton of options still, it's just which direction if any does management go.

Still can’t believe we moved a first for poetl lmao
He is far from the problem.

SN had an article suggesting that the Raps could have been close to a Siakam deal. That needs to happen.

Siakam would be spectacular on a team like Golden State, but he is currently occupying the space that Scottie should be a lot of the time (and doing so less well).

The problem is this team shouldn’t have been spending assets like 1st round picks on a player that doesn’t move the needle at all. They should have done a quick retool and acquired some draft capital but instead went and spent a bunch and our team is still garbage

This has been discussed. Masai and Webster trusted Nurse for too long. They bought him what he asked for.

The bigger issue is that when the team pivoted away from Nurse, they also needed to pivot away from the broken structure that Nurse insisted on.

Team doesn't operate on an island. There is a talent deficit on this roster and other teams have passed them by. Only even more losses can drive the point home it seems.

Roster needs a rebuild in the worst way.

Been pretty patient as a fan, think this upcoming bit has to be the last stretch to give it a chance to work. Can't float around 11th and 12th and not make moves as you approach the deadline, teams will squeeze you to make moves for cheap or wait for your guys to be free in the summer. They have a lot of salary that doesn't play a ton, time to start stirring the pot. Boucher, Young, Porter Jr, Trent Jr, McDaniels, Precious all have had chances to make a claim and have failed for the most part.

It's been clear for a few games that this doesn't work.

Most of the recent wins have required Pascal getting foul calls on his out-of-control drives to the net. The "improved post play" ignores that if the refs don't call reach-ins (because Pascal is largely initiating the contact himself), then his offense looks more like last night or worse. That is not a sustainable offensive model, and it largely precludes Scottie from getting touches inside.

Speaking of Precious, he's horrible. Boucher should be playing any minutes that Precious has. And you talk about throwing bricks from the foul line, yikes.

I had hopes for him after he arrived from the Lowry trade but he has been stagnant and hasn't evolved. Boucher has his moments but he is what he has always been. Our bigs outside Poeltl are very underwhelming... so are our guards.. really the team depth has not improved in years and Dick is a ways off from being a regular contributing player. Lots of black holes at this point .

This is a very strange team. They just ended the Suns 7 game win streak, off a disappointing game last night against the Nets. They've beaten the Wolves, Bucks, Mavs, Pacers and Suns this season and gave the Celtics a run for their money last matchup but have lost definitively to teams like Portland and Brooklyn. They also have two 20+ pt comeback victories.

On the bright side at least Barnes is growing into a star and watching his development has been fun.

The end of last night's game was interesting because Scottie started asserting his presence in the paint (whereas Siakam has owned that spot previously).

If they could ever learn to work together (with Scottie as the primary and Siakam as the secondary), the Raptors would be on to something, but as is there is an offensive spacing problem.

Scottie has become a lockdown defender, but there have been ups and downs due to him being completely removed from the offense at times. Last night Durant and Booker had eFG% of .400 and .167 respectively.

Toronto will officially be eliminated from contention in the play-in tournament if the Heat and Bucks win.
Can someone help me understand what the point of this tournament is? It seems utterly pointless to me, we end up with two teams who's reward for making the "final" is playing one meaningless game to win some meaningless tournament and that one game is the only one that doesn't count in the standings. What am I missing?

I haven't been paying much attention to the Raps lately but I did have the Suns game on while I was doing other things, then it sounded interesting so I started watching at some point in the 2nd half, that was great fun to watch. I have no idea WTF this team is, I guess I have plenty of company LOL.

Money for the players and a trophy.

The reason the finals don't count in the standings is because every team will play games to offset the "tournament playoffs" but there won't be an offset for the finals itself (so the two finalists will play 1 more game before the playoffs).

What this team is is a mess to watch because the pieces don't fit creating a situation where the individual talent is greater than the team potential.

OK thanks. I'm pretty sure nobody gives a shit about this trophy but money sure, I should have known.

As far as the individual talent vs potential, not sure that's completely clear at this point. Some nights they're terrible, other nights they play great so if they could just figure out a way to be consistent ...
