I don't think we talk about how smart Nurse really is. His defensive IQ is the best in the league. He knows how to run a defence and is constantly adjusting based on situation and team. The players deserve credit for executing but it starts with the system.
You combine a roster with 2 way and role players with an elite coach, you get a team that is always competitive.
Its funny cus he was known as an offensive coach when he started and the media portrayed losing casey would be detrimental to our defense...... About that

Thanks for sharing, I'm glad to have read this. Pisses me off more than I can say.

Masai is the best thing to happen to the Toronto sports scene in ages, possibly during my lifetime which is approaching 60 years.

That Rogers sounds like a true blue POS.

Rasicm = stupidity.

That is all.
I still Tim Liewieke was the best thing that happened for all of Toronto Sports, and because of him...we got Masai and because of that trickle down effect it got us the Cup, and even before that the TFC cup. I love that man so much, and is one of the reasons I wouldnt' be shocked when Kraken makes some good noises as well, that man has an eye for talent well above and beyond.

As for Rogers...I mean lets look at the braves and how alex is doing right now.

The question that I have been pondering the most is what is truly the potential of OG. I was never really hyped around him as odd as that sounds but I have been keeping an eye on him and seeing him improve and there is no doubt. At the pace he is going for, wouldn't surprise me for the most improved player like Siakam got in the past.

Interesting thoughts. :) I remember when OG and Siakam were just starting out, I loved watching OG play from day 1 and thought he had more potential. Of course I'm just a casual fan so my opinion doesn't mean much and so far looks like I was wrong but it's not over yet and I think it's still possible that OG gets to Pascal's level.

Funny how I really don't care about individual awards for the Leafs. I mean Matthews got the rocket, good for him but I really don't care. The Raptors though are a completely different story and I would LOVE to see OG win most improved player. I guess it's because they've had team success in the playoffs, once you've had that then the gravy on top is enjoyable but if the team hasn't has success, then who cares. That's me anyway, just my 2 cents.

Really enjoying this team. Seeing them bounce back so quickly and be an exciting up and coming team again speaks to the culture and expectations Masai and Nick have instituted and the players have bought in. The offense will likely have off night, and there will be ups and downs, but damn what a great group of guys.

I agree with you completely, not really interested in the Leafs individual awards nor how they are do until the playoffs come frankly. It's how I've been with the dodgers as well after a while too, winning divisions and player awards meant nothing to me or a lot of the fans and friends who i grew up with because we were all expecting results in the playoffs, no more no less. It was very exciting and fun when we saw finally the win for the world series lol.

I am in a similar spot as you regarding basketball maybe a bit more because of work, but I know both of them went through some tragic personal instances that definitely shook them up. I know I can relate because losing a parent at a young age, when they play a key role on how you want to be as an adult, definitely takes a toll. So if we get OG to be Siakam level that would great, and also bad for them potentially because knowing Masai will use them as great trade chips to bring potentially another superstar if we don't build one from within

The biggest difference I can see among all the MLSE sports team is the culture from top to bottom in the Raptors organization is well defined, and it shows up on the floor I think.

Hopefully Scottie becomes that superstar, he seems to have the potential anyway! Then it becomes a question of cap space I guess to determine who gets to stay for the next title. :)

NRR but...
cade cunningham through 3 games...
17.9 fg% (7-39)
4.7 3pt fg% (1-21)

thats historically bad lolllll

yea it's pretty bad and I think was getting comparison to anthony bennett level....however, he was injured in the summer league so I think he'll bounce back.
the funny thing to me is hes got more trips to the line tonight than scottie has all year im pretty sure, and scottie scores nearly all his points in the paint.

I'm just glad scottie is showing the confidence this early tbh. It's so damn refreshing, energizing and contagious when he shows his furor after a bucket or a block. Freaking love it.

It's a cold shooting start for sure. He was an efficient shooter in college though so I expect his efficiency to improve dramatically soon.
ye most of the rookies its been brick city though, not just him. its just that his bad shooting to start his career might be one of the worst if not the worst ever for a 1st overall pick lol. mobley and scottie(the 2 they said had prob the least effective offense in the high lottery picks) are doing the best by far lol

Yeah it's been tough for Cade. The Pistons truly are a garbage org. On the other hand it's funny how fast Scottie seems to have developed a passable scoring touch. His athleticism, rim protection, playmaking, length and intensity would have made him a useful player anyways, his shot improving so quickly is a revelation for this team. Masai had one lottery pick and he drafts a potential Pippen/Magic hybrid lol.

It's getting harder and harder to not be truly impressed with this organization from top to bottom. One of the great organizations in professional sports right now. We are so lucky.

Lucky indeed! I lived through the Leafs during the Ballard era which was a nightmare, the Masai era Raptors are basically the opposite of that. :)

My condolences to you for living through that utter bs. God I hated what happened with Keon and was relieved we were able to go fix it at least, I wasn't around for any of that, but he's still one of my favorites and was so damn happy.

As for the raptors...anyone know whats the status of this upcoming draft.

When I first started watching (too late to remember cups unfortunately) Keon was the captain. He was my favourite player and for a long time, I tried to get the number 14 for every sports team I was on, hockey, soccer whatever. My first sports hero, a very fine player and a class act to boot. :)

If you mean the 2022 draft, here's a link. I don't really understand it, looks like we have our 1st rounder, not sure what's going on with the 2nd round. Toronto Raptors Future Draft Pick Status

There’s only one Masai.

I was wondering today if Nurse/Masai leave in the future can the systems be replicated to continue these results into the future without Masai?

If yes, couldn’t teams just start poaching members of the Raptors executive staff into their own teams?

Raptors are truly the Tampa Bay Rays of the NBA right now in terms of finding and developing talent. Whatever their doing is working. The philosophy is clearly to find big physical players with a good two-way game while other teams load up on scorers but the ability to develop so many of these guys is really awesome. We haven’t even been drafting in the top 5 other then Barnes.

I never thought of that, and what a great comparison. Love it.

Here's hoping Masai, Bobby Webster and Nick Nurse remain with the team for many years/decades to come. Masai has talked about building the Raptors into a big global brand -- all it will take is lots of time with these three at the helm for the vision to come to fruition.
