I know right? I thought his shot was supposed to suck, that that was his biggest weakness and the hope was that maybe with a few years work it could be good. Those years sure flew by quickly.

Indeed you should have. Trust in Masai always, period.

They also said Trent needs to improve his D.

So.... 5 games into the season and both those issues have been addressed. Just HOW GOOD are we at developing players????

I've said it before, MLSE should send Masai to the Leafs for a season. They could use him.

I'm having to listen to the Pacers commentators. Pray for me

This colour commentator is the worst ive ever listened to.

Love that interview with Barnes after the game. That attitude, that confidence and that smile! Led the team in scoring 4 out of 7 games with an elite SH%, nobody saw that coming. What a gem!!

This is why I always kind of smirk to myself when people disparage the Raptors broadcasts.

Full disclosure: I haven't watched every game this season (I missed today's because it was someone's stupid idea to put the damn Sharks on TV at 4 f***ing o'clock for a home game just to apparently satisfy the need for it to be the HNIC early-slot B-game because Winnipeg or something. But I digress) so I haven't actually watched a Sportsnet game with Alvin Williams riding shotgun yet.

But on the whole the Raptors broadcast isn't bad. It's not the greatest, no. And I get that Jack is kind of a niche/acquired taste with his goofy-irish-uncle-at-the-bar schtick. But Matt Devlin is a solid pbp guy. he's not the best, but he's far from the worst. And you only need to watch a few other broadcasts out there to know that there's a very real chance that any replacement they were to get for him or the others on the broadcasts could go very, very badly. Because this is not like the Blue Jays where people want to oust Buck & Pat because you've got a perfectly good Dan Shulman and Joe Siddall sitting right there waiting in the wings. There is no obvious plan B for the Raptors and I think we should appreciate that sometimes being in that squishy, fungible, kinda forgettable middle isn't necessarily that bad a place to be in.

same, was rough. those guys were genuinely surprised EVERY time a call went against their team and the shrieking when the pacers made it close at the end was grating. that whole goaltending thing was hilarious how they reacted when the exact same play happened to the pacers then the raptors. in their minds the 2 plays couldnt have been more different.

Thorpe was the one guy who had Scottie Barnes in the top 2. This take was back in July. For the bit on Scottie go to 18:04

Honestly. Everyone owes Masai an apology

Not sure why we all choose then to not believe in Masai lol
Yup I admit to not liking the pick, but I need to trust Masai more. He's one of the best talent evaluators in basketball.

to most peoples credit they got behind the pick when it was made, i know i trusted masai enough to say he deserves the benefit of the doubt...especially with drafting. even pro talent evaluators are backpeddling on this pick at the moment so the common fan can be forgiven haha. there was so little info compared to previous years that unless u were personally involved you would have never seen the changes coming so fast.

Not all. Some of us were smart enough to trust Masai, I for one have complete faith in him and it didn't even occur to me to question the pick.

nice

Yeah, it was just a glimpse of fandom kicking in. It’s usually so easy with the Raps that you just sit and watch what they do because the trust in Masai is so high.

Not that day for some reason lol

Yeah, my feelings were doubtful, shocked and didn’t like it, but still had trust in Masai.

Never doubt Masai

I know it boggles my mind people think they have better inside information then Massai. He’s drafted Siakam, OG and now Barnes. This isn’t Dubas!

Yeah I'm just a casual fan and all I knew going in was that there 4 guys considered to be the top 4 picks and Suggs was probably #4. This implied that there was a bit of a drop to #5. Now considering Masai's draft record, when our pick was announced the reaction should definitely not have been WTF are you doing Masai. More appropriate would have been to think that this is great news, Suggs is supposed to be good but Masai found someone they like even better. Especially when you think back to Giannis and what Masai thought about him before the draft.

I will say though, no need to take shots at Dubas as so far it looks to me like we've drafted well during his reign. He's no Masai but still, looks pretty good so far.

Yeah, the haters never miss a golden opportunity to bash Dubas even when it's something he does rather well at. That was just ridiculous to say.

Barnes looking like a future superstar...can't believe how good this kid is this early, he's TWENTY and he's doing this.

Me a few months ago: obviously you take Suggs. Why did you take Barnes wtf Masai? Me now: Obviously you take Barnes at that pick, no brainer. Seriously though, even if Barnes isnt a superstar, he could always be a Shawn Marion type of player. Play any position, defend any position, shoot well enough and play in the post well enough to keep everyone honest. I think he'll be better than a Shawn Marion, that's the floor for me. It helps that he's such a likable guy as well.

Imagine living in a parallel universe where Masai wasn't resigned and we didn't draft Barnes. I just felt a cold shiver go down my spine.

Lou drafted Matthews and Marner. Nonis drafted Nylander. Burke drafted Rielly. Dubas just over paid them. The only thing ridiculous here is thinking Dubas is a good GM.

I’m only replying to this once (in this thread) because I don’t want to derail the Raptors thread.

If you want to make the case that Dubas hasn't drafted well, you should be telling us why it was a mistake to draft guys like Knies, Sandin, Robertson, Niemela etc., players drafted by other GM's have no relevance whatsoever to this subject.

This will be my only reply on the subject as well as this thread has been derailed enough. And just to be clear, you're the one who derailed it by mentioning Dubas.

In other news, the Knicks seem to be relevant again which is great news for the NBA! We are 7 point dogs tonight, hoping for a great game. Go Scottie! Go Raptors!
