Confirmed with Link: Utah HC acquires Olli Maatta from DET for 2025 3rd (NYR) [UPD: Signs 3-year extension $3.5M AAV]

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
Rangers pick will be a late 3rd, and that's a good price for a solid, decent, entirely pretty good NHL defenseman.

Of all the 3rd round picks in Coyotes history, Adin Hill (2015) and Michael Stone (2008) are the only ones maybe more valuable than Maatta. Only a handful of later picks (Yandle, Maccelli, Winnik, Garland, maybe Clifton) are better than Maatta.

Matikka and Lavoie are tracking very nicely.
Our current scouting group is exceptional at getting value out of picks.

With all 3 starting RHD(Marino, Durzi, Kesselring) out for the next game we really needed a warm body at this point. Maata is an upgrade over Bortuzzo so thats something positive.

I don't think this will be the only trade. Still would like to get Provorov from the BJs. Now it won't hurt if we ship a lesser LHD so the BJs can keep Mateychuk in Cleveland.

Schmaltz with 40% retention and Valimaki for Provolov

I did not know he was still in the league.
He was basically a nothing burger in Chicago, as I recall. I think Pittsburgh success just shows what a team playing the right way consistently can accomplish.

Edit: of course having a few complete studs never hurts either.

For coming in off the plane that morning and playing that night...... he did fine. Played a big part in getting one of our goals even though he didn't make the score sheet.

Yep.
Maata and Liljegren are different players. Maybe the small difference in acquisition cost is why Bill chose Maata, or maybe it was the stronger defensive track record.
Or maybe BA didn't like or want Liljegren?

Based on what Toronto got.... not really.

Toronto got a D in return and we didn't have that luxury given we're short on NHL serviceable D right now.
Were you in the room? You have no idea what BA is thinking. You could be right OR you could be wrong. 100% assumption.
