Confirmed Trade: [UTA/BUF] JJ Peterka (signs 5 years, $7.7M AAV) for Michael Kesselring and Josh Doan

Kesselring is good and addresses the huge RD hole in Buffalo but I really think pick 4 had to be included. I love this for Utah who have been improving year after year.

Trade grades-A for Utah
C- for Buffalo-I don't think it's a fleece but I'd have liked more if I was a Buffalo fan.

Seravalli reported earlier that Buffalo didn't want the #3 OA from Chicago for Peterka. You can bet they told Armstrong that Kesselring was what they wanted, not the #4 pick. And that is exactly the right play - the Sabres need win now players, they can't trade off for picks again or it's game over for the whole organization.

I don’t mind this for Buffalo. Utah I’m not sure about. They had a hard time defending last year but managed to score plenty. Trading one of the few guys who could defend seems like it could hurt them while placing too much pressure on Simashev and Lamoureux.

Utah desperately doesn't want to trade for futures and instead is cooking up some garbage hockey trades, and this is coming from someone who's pretty high on Kesselring

I would have thought the pick swap would have been involved with these two players. I actually like Doan a lot, but sort of surprised this is the full return given the market we have been hearing about around Peterka.

I feel for Buffalo fans, one of the better fanbases in the NHL. It feels like they won't let you have nice things then they all leave and win.

They were much much better once Marino and Durzi came back

It's already game over. They take a step back with this. I really feel for Sabres fans at this point. They need some big chunk of good luck thrown their way somehow.

I think Kesselring and Crouse would have made more sense for Buffalo. A big young RD with upside and a grizzled vet for leadership.

The only Adams trades I remember off the top of my head are getting McLeod for Savoie (win) and Byram for Mittelstadt (win). I'll have to look it up and find out what everyone's talking about.
Crouse sucks. Bottom 6er making 4M.

Doan is a much better target

Kesselring is a nice piece for Buffalo. Definitely a late-bloomer but is legitimately a top-4 caliber RHD now. Utah definitely sold high on him, though, to somehow land Peterka for him considering that he was once a throw-in for Nick Bjugstad, of all guys.

How is he a top 4 when he played the 6th most minutes (17:41) a game for Utah, and that was with Durzi and Marino missing more than half the season.
