Plushie Paradise: Pyongyang Edition

Chapter 1: Building the Dream

Against all odds—and a mountain of bureaucratic hurdles—Juan and Sandy managed to turn their absurd dream into reality. Plushie Paradise: Pyongyang Edition rose in the heart of the North Korean capital, a garish beacon of pastel colors, oversized stuffed animals, and questionable architectural choices.

The resort was massive, sprawling across acres with attractions that ranged from a plushie Ferris wheel to a plushie water park. The highlight was a luxury hotel shaped like a teddy bear lying on its back, complete with room windows in the eyes and nose.

“It’s whimsy incarnate!” Sandy declared during a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the giant plushie-shaped casino.

Juan nodded solemnly, holding his favorite sailor otter plushie. “The plushies would be proud.”

Chapter 2: A Unique Staff

Staffing the resort proved to be another challenge. North Korea didn’t have an abundance of plushie enthusiasts, so Juan and Sandy improvised. They trained locals to act as “Plushie Ambassadors,” donning costumes to represent various characters.

Unfortunately, the costumes were poorly made, and many looked less like cute plushies and more like abstract nightmares. Sandy waved off my concerns. “It’s avant-garde!” she insisted.

Juan took a more direct approach. “The kids will love it. If they don’t, we’ll just... make them.”

I wasn’t sure if he was joking.

Chapter 3: The Attractions

The resort’s attractions were as bizarre as its creators. The plushie roller coaster was shaped like a snake and designed to slither through giant plushie trees. The water park featured a lazy river where guests floated on plushie-shaped rafts.

The pièce de résistance was the plushie karaoke bar, where guests could sing inside plushie-shaped booths. Juan insisted on testing it out himself, belting out an off-key rendition of “Total Eclipse of the Heart” while hugging his otter plushie.

“It’s a masterpiece!” Sandy declared, wiping away a tear.

Chapter 4: The Grand Opening Approaches

As the grand opening loomed, the energy around the resort reached a fever pitch. Sandy had orchestrated a lavish ceremony, complete with fireworks, a parade of plushie costumes, and a guest list that reportedly included Kim Jong Un himself.

Juan, meanwhile, was busy perfecting his opening speech. “I’m going to make the plushies proud,” he said, pacing the lobby of the teddy bear hotel. “This is their moment.”

Sandy beamed. “Juan, darling, you’re a visionary. The world isn’t ready for what we’ve created.”

I stood off to the side, watching the chaos unfold. Despite my better judgment, I couldn’t help but feel a grudging admiration for their relentless pursuit of this ridiculous dream.

The stage was set. Plushie Paradise: Pyongyang Edition was about to open its doors to the world.
