There are five players that they pulled from the U-17 team in Hughes, Turcotte, York, Caufield, and Knight. They do not usually pull from other teams although they have in the past.

Those guys have been playing with the U18 team for a decent amount of time now though.

Hughes has. The rest of them were pulled up for the last 11-13 games of the season. Hughes has been with them for the majority of the season. They also pulled up Fensore, Vlasic, and Thrun but ended up taking York over them.
 
I hope Knight gets a look. Sure they took too many penalties and shaky defense, but DeRidder didn't give me the most confidence through the game.
 
Defense and Goalie were terrible. Don't think any of the 8 played well. I want to see Knight next game. He's the better goalie. We don't need to go another tournament where we don't win Gold because the coach plays lesser goalies.

Put Wilde with M. Samuelsson and Miller with Emberson. The pairings need to be spread out more because I don't think its going to work having a steady pairing, a gambler pairing, and then nothing else after that. Don't want to see A. Samuelsson take the ice the rest of the tournament, unless we go down a defenseman. And Stasney should have very low minutes, also. I'm mostly fine with how the forwards played, but I might switch up some of the bottom 6. I'd move Weiss and Pivonka up to play with Turcotte, move Giles and Hain down. Run 3 lines consistently, and only give the occasional shift to the 4th line. This is what I'd use as the strategy for the games against good teams. The games against bad teams probably doesn't matter how you strategize, but we shouldn't have lost this game.
 
I thought Stastney and Weiss were the two most impressive of the less heralded guys on the American side.

Wilde has an unreal skillset, but sort of frustrates you that he doesn't get the results that someone with his skills and size should have (Joe Colborne syndrome)

Hughes and Caufield are both very talented and it showed

I thought DeRidder was pretty good too. No chance on most of the goals though he probably should have have the Foudy goal and could have had the Bahl goal. Huge saves in the first can't go unnoticed
 
I will add this and agree with most said above - but, DeRidder was PHENOMENAL in that first period! Without him making 3-4 spectacular saves, the US was toast by the second period. I would like to see what Knight could do as well, but DeRidder just fell off a bit as the game went on, I have no problems with him in the medal round as he will tighten that up IMO.

And Hain was invisible yet again for me. I have not seen a game this year that I have even noticed him. I took a lot of heat for not listing him in my top 25 US kids eligible for this draft, but he yet again hasn't done shit out there...so confusing.

I like Weiss's skill, but he's buried behind more skilled players. Put him on a team where he gets more ice time and isn't on the fourth line, I think he could make the NHL.

I think the third line is kind of a waste with Hain and Giles on it. Turcotte has no help, he wants to play a skill game with grinders. At least move Weiss up who's way more skilled than all the other bottom 6 players, besides Turcotte. And while Pivonka isn't a big skill guy, he's a good grit player who can keep up with skill guys. I think a Turcotte-Pivonka-Weiss third line would work much better.

I think Stastney was the best defenseman out there this game. Haven't seen him play like that all season. Wilde had flashes but was just inconsistent. M. Samuelsson and Emberson did not play great. I think the other defenseman played okay. York looked good on the powerplay. DeRidder was not good this game and I think they should definitely start Knight in the next one.
