Original post:

welp...Looks like we can count on Ryan Malone and David Booth as both are playing for PTO's with the intention of playing in the Olympics...

and with the news of Jack Skille signing overseas, we have possibly our #1 line-

Malone - Skille - Booth ??
Kristo -P. Mueller -Schremp

Heck of a start eh???

I'd say a couple would probably be in the mix. But they will need to both be mature and talented.

I mean last year we had several NCAA guys who showed that they were NHL level talent this year, which is more than some of these other potential roster players.

There definitely will be some NCAA guys. Would be a pretty loaded team if it was last year. I think the brass will look for speed and that tends to be younger guys.

Caggiula, Stecher, Vesey, who else stuck in the NHL? They proved they were NHL level which is better than the euro guys.

Thanks for doing this. I've been thinking about the potential composition of this team for a bit and this roster overlaps with what I've been thinking too. I think Danny Kristo is close to a lock though. I think we will see some NCAA guys as well, so I think Daniel Brickley is likely on the team, and I thought he played well last year in limited ice time at the worlds. Greenway was on the worlds roster as well so I think he has a good shot too. Wouldn't be surprised to see a guy like Ryan Donato in the mix as well. David Leggio has a good shot to make it in net I think too. I think guys like Malone and Peter Mueller lack the pace this team will be looking for.

Realistically, what collegiate players would be strong enough to make the Olympic team? I would imagine it would have to be someone who dominates the WJC around New Years.

Seems like all the good players from the gold medaling team have turned pro, except for Anderson, Fox, Greenway, and Terry.

I think Greenway will be there. He played at the Worlds too

Dan Sexton - Chad Rau - Casey Wellman
Ryan Stoa - Andy Miele - Brian O'Neill
Ryan Lasch - Garret Roe - Danny Kristo
Nathan Gerbe - Mark Arcrobello - Broc Little

Matt Gilroy - Bobby Sanguinetti
Jonathon Blum - Matt Donavan
Mike Lundin - Sam Lofquist

Ryan Zapolski

Terry will probably be selected as the shootout specialist.

At Forward I think Greenway ( BU) and Donato ( Harvard ) will have spots with Terry ( DEN) right behind.

At D Belpedio ( Miami), Borgen ( St Cloud), Brickley ( Minn St, although he didn't show well at WC's) and Fox ( Harvard) will get a look.

Do they have NHL contracts?

Yeah, looking at that prospective USA roster. They're going to be affected big time by the NHL sitting out the Olympics.

Yep we are probably a step above Slovenia at this point. It's almost surely going to be a massive embarrassment.

I also thought that there can be no AHL contracted players here...or am I wrong in that?

I thought because the NHL will still be needing injury call ups that any player with an AHL contract does not have to be released to play in the Olympics...maybe someone can confirm..

I wish the entire team was made up of NCAA/CHL kids - so much more exciting to see the kids out there regardless of getting crushed by a Russian team full of Kovalchuk and Datsyuk!!

If they have an NHL contract NO.

If they have an AHL contract it is up to the club.

Where are the students on these lists?

I would guess we will see at least 5 or 6 NCAA players on this team. It's kind of tough to predict who those players will be this early. Daniel Brickley and JD Greenway played at worlds last year so they have a leg up most likely. I think Donato and Terry may be front runners but it will all come down to how these guys play this fall/winter.
