Honestly I kind of wish USA basketball had at least some rivals the way Canada does in hockey. We had Spain for a bit but they seem to have been unable to replace their gold generation. It makes games more interesting.

I think most hockey fans in Canada appreciate the fact that a lot of countries have closed the gap, makes it far more interesting and the NHL and the game as a whole much better. When it was just Canada vs. USSR it wasn't as good, even though the rivalry was.

Flames watch:

Parsons stopped 51 of 55 shots in a Gold Medal Win
Fox had 3 assists in a Gold Medal Win and is eligible to return next year bigger quicker faster and more confident.
Dube was one of Canada's most noticable two-way players and should be returning next year in a more offensive role
Karnaukhov helped the Russians win Bronze as a 2nd liner, finishes tourney with 2G 2A
Kylington was named player of the game in a Bronze OTL where he never got a chance to get onto the ice

Well today was a win and a half.

It was absolutly amazing game between two pretty good teams.

Congratulations to USA! Thank you Canada for another good WJC!

Let's see if you will be saying that the next Olympics.

While I always hope the United States wins gold, I am also knowledgable enough to see that in the Olympics Canada will have a very talented team. The last Olympics was a good indicator of what I am talking about. They had a team made up of super stars but they all bought into the system. You could even see this at the World Championship. I was not as impressed by how the United States chose their team and how they played.

I'd personally like to see us get a bit more competitive at soccer as well.

Same here. I really love soccer, and wish Canada could field a more competitive team. I still remember when we won the Gold Cup a LONG time ago. We haven't had that kind of success in too long, and even then a lot of luck was involved in winning that. Would love it if we could just produce a few relatively big soccer stars, at the very least, playing in top Euro leagues. But I digress.

Yeah, seriously. Canada is still the dominant force in the game.

I hope the US can draw even at the men's level. If it does happen, we're still 20+ years away IMO.

We can play it close at the Olympics, but can't match Canada's depth, especially down the middle. Hopefully Matthews and Eichel are the beginning of a new trend.
Having Matthews and Eichel completely changes the dynamic of center depth for you guys in the future and I'm excited to see all these new rookies this year become well rounded enough to play for their countries and compete against each other. We've got alot of excellent hockey to watch in the future.

Hockey is America's game! The past is irrelevant now, the torch has been passed.

Within 2-3 years the best player in the world will be Auston Matthews, an American, the best defenseman will be Werenski, an American.

I'm not even asking for a McDavid level talent, I'd settle for a Kunitz level talent playing in the BPL

You'll get there eventually. I'm confident in that fact. As Canada becomes more multicultural, there will be less and less Canadian hockey participation. More kids will be choosing soccer, baseball, basketball, etc instead, and that's when the US will catch up. Plus, if the Canadian economy goes down the drain some more, what parents are going to invest the thousands of dollars it takes for their kids to play hockey? It's not a cheap sport, where as America is going to prosper very soon imo.

We'll see, but it might be you guys who are the undisputed favourites every year at the best on best level.

Kinda dumb to say that 'The US is the best in the world now' though. Long way to go, like you said.

We'll just have to kidnap Crosby and McDavid and brainwash them into thinking they're American

Lol, not biased at all. What about McDavid, huh?

Does anyone know if NHL Network will replay this epic game? I am so pissed! I thought it was recording from start to finish and my DVR messed up. It recorded right up until the last few minutes of OT and I missed the entire shoot out. So ticked!

My guide isn't telling me either way if NHL Network is replaying.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves guys... a great win, and I'm really excited about US hockey going forward.
But in the last Olympics Canada could have fielded two teams, and may have finished one/two!

We have to keep improving!!

Sorry to hear that Karlsson is retiring early.

Yeah, same here. Either a mid-fielder or striker. Just at least give me someone to really cheer for, and give me an excuse to buy some Team Canada soccer jerseys with his name on the back, lol. With TFC's recent success going all the way to the finals, I think it should encourage more young men in Canada to participate and take it seriously. I hope so. I want to see a couple Canadian soccer stars in my life time. Here's hoping.
