In a follow up- i do not want to hear Canadian fans bringing up McDavid, and how Canada would have won with other players in the NHL. During the Lockout 4 years ago, Canada laid an egg in this tournament with all the supposed top players being available. You cannot call yourself the best, when you have one Gold Medal in the last 8 years. Absolutely embarrassing for me to see my fellow Canadians making excuses. We are simply not that superior in Junior Hockey like TSN proclaims we are. The US is on par with Canada, and will probably surpass it soon.
What are you even talking about? All tournament TSN was proclaiming Canada to be underdogs, did you see the lead up to the game against Sweden? They made it seem like Canada had no chance against them.

I feel for Roy, he had the keep dead to rights at the top of his crease and lost it on the touch before the backhand. No doubt a few of our Canada guys are losing sleep for a few weeks. I thought Chabot was miles above everyone but McAvoy tonight, 2 fantastic defensemen holding it down for their team.

I'm proud of this team for taking it to the finals, lets have a rematch next year in the finals!

Congrats to USA for a solid tournament and gold. Hell of a night for hockey.

I don't know.

It just feels weird that a skills competition decided who won gold.

I mean imagine if game 7 of the stanley cup finals was decided in a shootout?

It is what it is though. Congratulations USA.

It's not a real win to me because it wasn't achieved by playing the ******* game.

I want Canada to win hockey games, not an NHL all star game competition. I can't recall a single shootout win that didn't leave me dissapointed that a great game was needlessly cut short.

Those games are ties as far as I'm concerned.

I would have preferred a continuous, whether 5 on 5, 4 on 4 or even 3 on 3 as well. I would say so before, during, and after the game, but the rules are the rules and the kids from USA won in accordance with the rules as they stand. So I don't think it's fair to try and take away from what those kids accomplished.

I'll say it again. You'd be singing a different tune had your team won. You hate to lose at your game, it's understanable. But don't try and make yourself feel better by saying it isn't a real loss for you or a real win for the US. Anyway, cheers.

Me neither, the kids won by the rules and deserved the victory. No fault of their own.

The USA absolutely deserved Gold. Beat the Russians and us twice, no question who the best team was. Well earned win.

This game was a classic, despite the results, I objectively see this game as a reminder and stoking of the fire for why I love this game. Reminded me of why I fell in love with hockey as a young lad years ago.

The US were the best team in the tournament, no doubt. And no team deserves to win after blowing a pair of two-goal leads.

Would have been nice for it to have ended with HOCKEY though. Just a preference.

Why would you want the NHL to take over and ruin actual fun, exciting, thrilling hockey? Do you want to ruin this sport or advertise it?

To be fair, the funness probably has more to do with the players' ages than anything the organizing body does. Teenagers are both highly emotional and prone to making mistakes that more experienced players aren't. Combined with narrowing the talent pool to best on best (ish), of course it's gonna be a good time and exciting hockey.

And I'll say it for a third time: I hate seeing elimination games ending with SOs even if Canada wins.

I loved Eberle's goal with 5 seconds left but couldn't stand seeing him then skating in on goal in the BS round. A complete farce.

:handclap::handclap::handclap: The hockey was great, that's really what matters. I'm sad we lost, but we'll be back.

Been hearing that my whole life. I'll believe it when I see it.

It's already happened. Since 2010 the USA has a 3-1 advantage over Canada in gold medals for this tournament. USA has better young players than Canada at this point. It will translate to the Olympics and such eventually.

On to the 2018 WJC :yo:

You can't exactly use this as definitive evidence.

For example, last year Ekblad and McDavid were missing. This year: McDavid, Marner, Konecny, et al. Seriously, imagine McDavid here?

Nonetheless, the USA has done an excellent job in developing talent. Regarding the Olympics, I'm not so sure. For the Olympics teams have a 10-15 year pool of players to pick from. I'll still take our very best when we have a 10-15 year pool of players.

That's another discussion though, the USA should enjoy their victory and the attention should be on the American kids who won Gold.

Love the tournament unfonate it died this year, but the ultimate finale. I can't argue it. I'd love to see this end in an actual game on game situation but unfortunately this is likely the end.

USA was without a bunch of talent too. McDavid isn't that far ahead of Mathews as a player right now

Ehh, no need for a side track. You're welcome to your opinion (19 year old leading the NHL in points is damn impressive, you see McDavid often being in the Pacific).

This is about your WJC team and celebrating the American win. Congrats neighbour, I tip my hat in respect.

One for the ages. Could have watched those boys play all night.

Hate the shootout. Gold should not be decided that way.

good game too bad Mcdavid, Mathews, laine, pulparty, ktactuck, hanafin and others weren't around. Basically a lot of B team going around looks like that next year too

I do not feel one bit bad for Roy .He was drafted by Cape Breton 1st overall in Quebec Major Junior Draft and would not report cause they are an English area citing school concerns.Imagine if Crosby said that about Rimouski.ITS CALLED KARMA.He has no fans in that part of Canada I bet
