Good job to the players who played for Team USA. It was a very good game. I am disappointed a shootout is what decided it.

The NHL's hands would be tied just like the IIHF's hands are tied.

The NCAA and CHL simply won't allow their players to play continuous overtime in the middle of their seasons.

Another few minutes wouldn't kill them. Make it 4 on 4 for the second OT and it probably ends in a hurry.

It's times like this that I wish the NHL would take over running the WJC. Handing out medals via the shootouts is a joke. Might as well flip a coin.

Why would you want the NHL to take over and ruin actual fun, exciting, thrilling hockey? Do you want to ruin this sport or advertise it?

Again, this song has been sung for 20 years now. Let me know when the US decides to do something with this talent of theirs, like win a senior level event.

Gaudreau - Matthews - Kane

2/3 's of that line was kept of team USA for the world cup. Add to that Seth Jones, Werenski, Galchenyuk, Eichel and you have a pretty formidable line up to contend with.

Yeah and then next thing you know the OT would feature team St Lawrence Seaway Corridor only players born in March vs. Flatlanders aged 17.5-19.33 3v3 with a glow puck.

I kinda want to see that out of morbid curiosity...

Because at least the NHL hands out titles by playing hockey and not via some all-star game sideshow.

Imagine the World Baseball Classic final being settled with a home run derby. Ridiculous.

Maple Leaf fans are mad at Auston Matthews on twitter and wanting him traded. Send him home!

In a follow up- i do not want to hear Canadian fans bringing up McDavid, and how Canada would have won with other players in the NHL. During the Lockout 4 years ago, Canada laid an egg in this tournament with all the supposed top players being available. You cannot call yourself the best, when you have one Gold Medal in the last 8 years. Absolutely embarrassing for me to see my fellow Canadians making excuses. We are simply not that superior in Junior Hockey like TSN proclaims we are. The US is on par with Canada, and will probably surpass it soon.

ofcourse we would still have some defeats, but you're missing the point...canada is by far and away the most hindered team by the NHL, we lack an astounding amount of talent on a consitent basis because we have players good enough to make the NHL...there's a pretty big difference between complaining with dumb excuses and simply calling something what it is. The WJHC nor the WJC are best on best tournaments. They never have been. If they were we'd still lose a few. But the dominance would be much much greater.

It's not that big of a deal for the World Juniors.

US obviously has talent but it matters little if nothing is done with it.

Top 3 reasons why Canada lost:
3). Dylon Strome sucks. He is overrated and he is not a leader. I don't know how a knowledgable hockey coach could have kept him on the power play. He never should have been captain. You pick dressing room leaders as captain.
2). The team wasn't physical enough. This team was too small. When playing in Canada we should pick more players that are bigger and more physical because of the smaller ice. This type of team (speed) is better suited for Europe ice.
1). Our goaltending just isn't good enough. I give Hart credit. He played hard and he did a great job against Sweden. But we gave home 2 goal leads twice and he just couldn't make that phenomenal save to hold the lead. Parsons did and that's the biggest difference in my opinion.

Congrats to the US!!! You deserve it.

Ending a game as terrific as this in a shootout is a travesty.

That being said, USA overcame some bad calls and was very good after they gave up those two early goals in the third. Really glad to see this team take gold. Terrific for USA hockey.

Did anyone have an issue with the shootout before this game?

Honestly, I think many Canadians have had an issue with shootouts deciding elimination games since 1998, perhaps even going back to 1994.

Nonetheless, it was a fun game. USA prevented Canada from holding the championships in the 4 major international hockey events.

write down the top 12 forwards and top 6 defenceman and top goalies for team USA and do the same for Canada and tell me which one you want to start the WHC, olympics, world cup, stanley cup playoffs, and how many seconds it took you to determine that. go:laugh:

Congrats to the Americans. They are the best at the shootout. I hope this can erase the Olympics and world cup defeats.
