Damn it, almost a perfect period by team Russia.

Samsonov looked pretty confident until this goal. I hope his mental game is strong.
 
I counted 5 turnovers for Jones but he made a good move carrying puck low to help on tying goal.McAvoy needs to be on ice vs Russia top line
 
Great period by Russia, only to be sabotaged by Samsonov's mental vacation in goal. I'm hoping he can make it up to the team.
 
Great first period. Happy the refs are putting the whistles away and letting the boys play rather than try and put themselves at center stage. Refreshing to see. Good pace from both teams. USA has been the better team but lost a lot of momentum after Kaprizovs goal. So getting the equalizer at the end of the period was important. Probably how the game is going to play out over the remaining two periods. USA will control the play but will have to watch out for Kaprizovs line as they can turn a nothing play into a goal and will capitalize on any mistake. Kaprizov is such a good player btw, too bad he is signed for another year in the KHL. The guy is good enough to be in the NHL next year and put up a decent amount of points.

Difficult to play a 2-3 hour game any later than 3pm when there's another at 7pm. Even that alone, is cutting things close.
 
russia is doing a really good job of being in passing lanes and shooting lanes. usa got to just get the puck down low and try to draw russian players out of position in the cycle game.
 
I definitely approve of the reffing.

They have let some ticky tack stuff go but nothing that would have led to a clear scoring chance.

Huh? He made several great plays in that period and was one of the best players up until the russian goal. After that he made one really bad giveaway but that's about it. Made a lot of small, smart plays in the first 15 minutes of the game and allowed the US to keep pushing the pace. Then obviously he jumped into the play and got an assist on the tying goal, which was a nice play as well.

Not sure. Harper's barely played all tournament, and when he has I thought he's looked tentative at best. His awful turnover led to that goal, although there was plenty of mistakes by the team post-turnover, including another turnover by Harper.
 
Nice, fast & fluid game so far. Russia's had some good puck pressure, but the US seems to be controlling play a bit more.

He had some bad turnovers.Needs to clean it up.
