Vorobyov isn't a shooter. Personally the only change to the order would have been Kaprizov second but whatever.

fair enough, but I believe if Bragin thought it was a 3 round shootout he would have had Kaprizov in the top 3 shooters. Thus he knew it was a 5 round shootout. Some of his players didn't and that's someone's fault for not telling them I guess, but not the IIHF who informed Russia somehow because Bragin appeared to know.

I won't read any of this thread because it's probably a train wreck. Great game. Someone had to lose. Hate the shootouts but it is what it is.

Samsonov and Gurianov were so good. Pressure shootout goals for Bracco and Terry. Very enjoyable to watch. Hope the other game is just as good.

Congrats USA.

When Sidorov went out celebrating Bragin gave up a pretty stern look. So I think he knew.

Anyway, sending good vibes to the US in the final. I hope they win.

Haha was that why he went on the ice? I thought he just decided he'd shoot next.

I'm not sure why TSN would be fabricating rule changes like that, but I found another source referring to an announcement on IIHF site titled "3-on-3 OT in 2017", but the site seems to be down.

Site is not down. It's the IIHF site, and it must be receiving lots of traffic right now, because it's slow. Real slow. Try refreshing.

Here's the link. This is an IIHF official release, so even though the rules are not changed on online documents, it should clear up the matter as to whether the rule was changed or not.

I mean.. I wanted Russia to win but accept the loss guys. Updating the site to the current rules is likely to appease the masses that are crying foul right now, the rule update was done months ago.

People realize that rules posted on a website are just a reproduction of the rules for informational purposes for fans, right? And that official rules are almost always going to be contained in documents held by the governing bodies, but made available to the contestants prior to play?

A website not being updated is meaningless.

Fair enough, but it's totally amateurish that the IIHF didn't update its website. Where else are interested parties, like the posters ITT, supposed to go to find the "official" story?

The procedure will begin with three (3) different shooters from each team in a Round
Robin or in a Preliminary Round Game or five (5) shooters in a playoff, Bronze Medal or
Gold Medal Game of a top category Championship, taking alternate shots. The players do
not need to be named beforehand. Eligible to participate in the Penalty-Shot Shootout will
be the four goalkeepers and all players from both teams listed on the official game sheet
except as specified in article 3 below.

It says it's 5 shooters in a playoff, bronze or gold medal game. Was this a "playoff" game? Aren't only the relegation games considered "playoffs"?

The fact of the matter is, Russia had 3 separate opportunities to win this shoot out. Twice they were a save away from victory, and once they were a goal away. They came up 0 for 3. Really, anybody who looks past that and tries to blame some confusion in the rules is just expressing sour grapes.

Well, his save percentage and GAA gets worse every game, so I don't know how.

:laugh: what a terrible argument. If you watched the goals scored on him, you'd know that he's literally had no chance to stop any of them.

If a team got 10 2 on 0's on Parsons and scored 7 goals against him (a save percentage of .300%), would you call Parsons bad? No.

He stole the game against Switzerland for them and was the difference maker in the 1st game against Russia.

Not to mention he won player of the game today.

He's earned it.

Not to mention he's won 21 straight playoff games :)

Not at all. Been following at work. Quite civil on both sides.

Thanks for the commentary, guys!

The team that took the first shot during the penalty-shot shootout for
the first three rounds will shoot second for the fourth and subsequent
shots of the sudden-death format until a winner is determined.

there was no change!!!

Official Website is updated with the correct rules now.

I actually looked there during the Swiss/Czech game when the TSN guys said the rules were changed to 5 during the knockout games and noticed that it was incorrect then. Maybe I should have emailed someone before this "disaster" came about
