I wouldn't say I'm cheering for anyone. I mostly just want it to be a really entertaining game, ending in OT. Though maybe slightly cheering for Russia.

Canadian people chering-support Russia or USA this match?

Probably mostly Russia. It's closely enough balanced that a dirty hit or something like that could determine it. Canadians of Eastern European descent, like Ukrainians, Poles, the Baltic States etc, might be influenced in their cheering by political concerns and suspicions, whether inherited or present day. Most of us mainly want to see a good game.

I think we would cheer for any other team in the tournament against either team, however. If US fans are hurt by that, take it as an indirect compliment. You are now good enough to be respected/hated and thus cheered against.

Well, in some way you can use the past statistics for this one since for the last 4 years the comments have been the same, experts have said the same things etc. but Russia finished up winning anyway. This year is pretty much exactly the same.
Russia will win.

Different players and different coaches. What happened last year, or in years before, does not have a tangible impact on what happens today.

Oh well. Let's see how the last year statistics worked out for the the last year champion this time.

That's just another example of history repeating itself.. I'm sure that there have been other championship teams who failed miserably the next year.. Maybe not relegation round but close..

You can't draw direct parallels but Russia winning all previous meetings in KO rounds is certainly a trend. I believe it has a lot to do with old Soviet system of conditioning athletes to peak towards the end by running microcycles. That's why we can see a clear pattern year after year that Russia starts poor but is in the finals almost every year..

Same coaches, some same players, same hockey schools and systems producing these players.. I think it has the main effect on what to expect

I agree with Passionis. There is clearly a trend.
But most notably is the fact that there is a trend in not believing in the trend. As for the Russia - USA, fans and experts always believe that USA will win because they have had the better statistics along the way, but it has shown wrong in the end. So the only statistics we should believe in now is not to believe in the statistics in this tournament up to this match. You know how I mean :D

Russians probably have the best forward and goalie in the tournament, which is a pretty scary duo to face. I'll still say 3-1 USA.

The only safe thing to expect is that one of four teams will take the gold medal. The rest (past performance, number of medals, round robin results etc) is irrelevant. It's the Junior hockey - anything can happen.

Crap, didn't realize this game starts at 3, I'll be at work and can't watch live. Guess consistently refreshing this thread will do.

Oh man this start this early? I was planning a nap so I could stay up for the Canada vs Sweden game. Oh well sleep is for the weak

I am hoping for a USA / Canada final. So I am going to root for the USA. Plus I do like how the Americans play the game, especially Keller, Greenway, White, and Parsons. Makes them an easy cheer for me.
