US Jr D Talent 1975-77 way better than 2018-20

What has happened in last 3 years to US producing elite or near elite D?
Its cost them at least one Gold for certain and maybe more.

The US produced significantly better Jr talent at D from players born
1955-57. O'Connell, Larson, Langway and Roberts were way more talented
than everyone but Hughes. Defensively Ken Morrow was better than any dman last 3 years. This doesn't even factor Mark Howe as a Dman but
a forward then.

I'm told US is producing talent galore now, but the Jr age group
43-45 years ago was much better.

It is indeed. I was also looking back at old footage from 1954 Ice Hockey World Championships - Wikipedia.
Very interesting to see just how far Finland has come in 66 years. Finland lost to Canada 20-1 at that tournament. Now here today they only are losing 5-0. Very good improvement!

I was in college when Matti Hagman came over
from Finland and played for Don Cherry's
B's.
