Muzzin is back on the ice. It’s like getting a free player at the
Muzzin (concussion) back on ice ahead of Leafs skate - TSN.ca

if they don’t sit him til the playoffs this is ridiculous. I’m not even sure he should play in the playoffs.

he has had multiple injuries and 2 back to back concussions. His arm wen straight out and he was Out.

he said he was playing scared after the first. The idea that they put him on LTIR and blocked the cap accrual to keep up Clifford makes this even dumber.

I said this at the time, you need the wink-wink handshake deal to have a player sit out until the playoffs, and that's completely up to the player. It's not as simple as the team just deciding - If Muzzin wants to play you can't just call him injured.

Also, as far as accrual is concerned, with Kase and Sandin out we had no choice but to go into LTIR and stop accruing.

Is there not the risk of an independent opinion though for a situation like this..... can't fake injuries.

There is nothing fake about being knocked out twice in a month.

concussions are subjective. There are some tests ie reaction light sensitivity after but most times it comes down to players.

byram played for months after his and left the team.

there is nothing wrong with 2 months to get him sorted. No doctor would be penalized for that

I've said the same thing the whole time. Muzzin returning before the playoffs is not something that can be discounted.

or "I feel great and ready to get back in the lineup."

doctor can over ride that. A player can’t just say they feel good anymore.

it’s absolutely medically defensible to state that the player missed 1 month had on and off symptoms and played after before coming back.

then goes unconscious again within a month. The doctor can absolutely cite previous history and state he isn’t ready.

So you're saying the Leafs should tell their team doctor to force Muzzin to sit out, regardless of what he says and what any medical clearance or testing results say?

And what happens when Muzzin gets pissed he's being held out of the lineup for no legitimate medical reason to allow the team to go over the cap in playoffs and tells the media/league just that?

If the doctors feel he is legitimately still hurt they will hold him out. I don't think anyone thinks differently.

yea.

In a head injury league where the league has actually been sued for head trauma and poor treatment absolutely

1.) a team cannot make up an injury
2.) a player does not just get to say they are good to play. It used to be the way. Players basically lie and sign off on being “ok” when they aren’t. Different times

3.) again a doctor absolutely can say that a player is not ready to play when they have 2 head injuries in a month and went completely unconscious. Especially when the player declared himself fine and turned out not to be.

I am not saying the leafs should pressure the doctor if things are fine. I am saying that muzzin doesn’t just get to say he is fine.

IF the doctor decides he is clear and they are comfortable (how they could is beyond me) he comes back. But muzz can’t just say he is fine and be trusted.

4.) lupul declared himself fine.

People with brain damage often overestimate their condition and abilities because.. well they have acute brain damage. When I was young, by far the riskiest and worst decision making of my life came in the days after serious concussions. I don't trust someone with a brain injury saying they're good to go any more than I trust a drunk saying they're good to drive.

If you say that MUZZ is in danger of being accidently on purpose being bonked in the head by random object.

The link to the article mentions getting a free player. I was looking more at Muzzin's cap space on LTIR and getting 2 free players instead.

all of the insiders seem to be talking like he will be out.

Scrutiny is high after the Kucherov incident.

You have to understand the politics.

I'd get him up for a skate here and there and then well .... follow the Kucherov playbook.

Assuming Muzz needs the rest. If he wants to play, great !

I still don't buy the argument at all that a player who is healthy (or at least healthy enough to come back) would willingly sit out games just to help the team's cap situation.

We heavily praise guys who play through pain and injury, yet now we want to admonish a player and GM for telling a guy to sit at home for the sake of it.

why do some believe players can miss significant time then magically heal for the playoffs and jump right in at the top of there game ? Kuch did it but i can't imagine many others can

hell , one of our guys gets a hang nail , misses a game and it's used as the reason if he goes into a slump at anytime during the season

also i hope he's not pushing himself too fast because he's afraid of losing his spot to Big Mac Hollowell
