UPDATE - Muzzin placed on LTIR

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
We basically need both those guys or similar (Chiarot and Giordano). We're missing an entire pairing in our top 4 with Muzzin out and Holl being Holl. We simply cannot go into the playoffs with either Liljegren or Sandin getting top 4 minutes. Liljegren especially will get eaten alive by the physicality as he's still so inexperienced.

Agreed, Idk if we have the assets that were willing to give up to land both though.

A fluke. He still managed to make a couple signature Holl plays last night. My favorite being skating the puck behind his own net under pressure and coughing it up. He makes at least one terrible decision like that per game. His decision making is Gardiner-esque.

Holl regularly fails the eye test. He regularly gets good results too.

I tend to agree. This is Dubas opportunity to be a wizard.

He has some real assets in the lineup, he will have some cap space as Muzzin needs to get healthy. Concussions so close together cannot be taken lightly.

Leafs need to rest him for a long period. In a perfect world, Dubas can find two defensive upgrades, another top 6 forward and Muzzin returns for the playoffs.

Including Muzzin, this could result in four Gamers upgraded to this team from it's current lineup, on top of the Russian bear.

That would leave nothing to chance and eliminate any excuses for this group as it would be well stocked for playoff hockey.

Muzzin hasn't been Muzzin this year. I don't know if it's the injuries, or age, or both. If he's going to be out for an extended period, or even the rest of the season, I don't think we have a choice BUT to find someone else for that spot. Chiarot would surprise me, given he doesn't like the Leafs at all, has said he won't come here, and has a NTC to prevent him from coming here... so....

Weird thread....if he is out long term then yes of course we should put him on LTIR and get someone to replace him.
As much as some like to believe, its not really up to us.

We probably won't have any draft picks left for 2022 Draft after Dubas is finished.

We only have a 1st, 2nd, and 7th as it is. (we could lose the 7th to a previous trade condition but not likely)

With Muzzin out, it makes the Leafs that much more desperate and ripe for an overpayment. So I would expect our GM is now in his comfort zone.

I'd be okay if he gave up a 1st., player and top prospect for a legit, controlled top 3 defender.

Getting a goaltender is just a fantasy, so I'll go with the better than Muzzin defender.

I can't see this not happening if Muzzin does go on the LTIR, We have assets and going into the playoffs with Muzz as a potential third pairing guy is massive

It's black & white, either it's an option or it isn't.

They shouldn't do it if they're breaking rules to do so.

Of course. The hockey talk on here isn't being insensitive, his health is paramount.

The league would be absolutely vile and asinine in todays health conscience society to tell the Leafs "two serious concussions within a couple of weeks is no big deal, get him back in there and stop playing games".

Even a 22 year old would be taking time off, even if that player said "no coach, I'm good".

Many players recover fully and continue to play and dominate. It requires care and effort of the player and team around them. Leafs have lost plenty of players on waivers in an effort to remain compliant, the league knows the Leafs don't skirt the rules as other teams have been accused of.

As some here suggested from a selfish fans perspective. Imagine picking up two top D and when Muzzin comes back "easing him in" on the bottom pair. That would be one hell of a defense for other teams to reckon with.

This is stupid. We can bring in an 8m Dman with Holl’ cap space if we do double retention.
But no let’s sit one of our best defencemen instead.

Sit Muzzin until he is healthy but once he is bring him back there are better ways to get cap space.

Holl, Dermott, Prospect/Picks for Adam Larsson. Top 5 d continuity for the next 3 years. Works on cap friendly into the future if they can move Mrazek and let Mik & Engvall walk next year.

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Larsson
Sandin-Lyubushkin

You go past the trade deadline counting on Muzzin to return to form? Feels like a long shot to me. Holl’s a bottom pairing guy without him. We lose our middle pairing right there and Sandin-Lilijegren not ready to fill that spot.

It was the most Jake Muzzin thing ever though how he literally looks like he forgot how to play hockey and just loses his balance and falls into another guy knocking himself out. He’s just not okay
