I don't think its bad luck as much as it is tempting fate by going after guys with injury histories behind them. If you keep buying 10yr old cars with 200,000KM on them...you can't really bitch about reliability all the time.

It's bad timing more than anything. I don't think anyone would be surprised that Murray would have issues through the year, just hope it didn't come at a time when your 3 and 4 goalies are also out. (Assuming Kallgren will miss some time).

Confirmed

The two teams had a deal lined up that would have seen the two teams flip first-round picks, with the Sabres moving up No. 7 for the No. 16 overall selection, with the Senators also retaining salary. Murray, however, has Buffalo on his 10-team no-trade list and declined to waive for the move.

I don't think the Leafs could move up from 16 to 7 for a 3rd and a 7th round pick so I do believe we got a worse deal and basically Murray was only going to waive for Toronto or Edmonton but Edmonton already tampered so we were the only show in town.
Only show in town and we still overpaid

This is 100% true but you need to keep in mind the context of the team you're talking about. This kind of post should not exist for our season and it only exists because of poor goaltending decisions. If situation was different for our team and different circumstances past years it's okay to gamble on Murray

LTIR and Robidas island and all the cap issues are gone. Give Samsonov the #1 job and hope one of the many young flyers they picked can play 20 or so half decent games

And the reward for this parlay seems very, very low.

I would say the odds are long, but on paper the reward could be seen as a Kawhi type championship winning goalie... in any case, it's a "bet" more than a piece of diligent team building. Samsonov would seem to be more along the lines of adding to the core, growing a piece who could be a core member, etc.

We would still need to clear a contract or two but I'm sure that could be done. Only tricky thing now is where do you plausibly get a goalie? Maybe check waivers for a life line if it came to it.

Leafs used these goalies Mike Palmateer, Felix Potvin, and Curtis Joseph during the centential classic.

Would be pretty cool if Leafs signed one of them on an emergency basis tonight to back up Samsonov. :)

So uh what's Ian Scott up to these days

Fun fact. Jeremy Swayman was in chicklets podcast and said that he was convinced Leafs would pick him. It was almost a done deal after they interviewed him 3 times and that leafs hinted to him he would be their go to

For some reason when it came to his pick the Leafs brass picked Ian Scott.

One unfortunately had to call it quit due to his injuries, the other is now a legit starter

Most hockey organizations after witnessing that:

It wouldn't be wise to dress an injured goalie as a backup just because he can manage to put on the gear. He could end up being called upon and risk further injury. Nonetheless Murray looked like he wasn't putting weight on his left leg in the twitter video clip.

I understand that but given the leafs situation they would have no other choice to dress Murray. I’m sure it will be a guy on an ATO but if no one was available Murray would have to dress

haha id love this the only problem is if they have to go into the net, they would go down once, and need the training staff to pick them back up.

Leafs had Dylan Ferguson on a PTO,

What would be his status in an emergency basis .. He played for the Marlies but isn't on an NHL contract, but must be on an AHL one now only.

He’s played Pro so he wouldn’t be eligible
