Jones makes it look easier than he did against Gane.

Amazing troll job by McGregor. He made Chandler sit out for how long just for him to fight Charles again lol.

A step up in competition for Nickal. I hope Craig pulls it off though!

This card is meh on paper. Won't be watching.

I'm not sure if it will be as easy as it was against Gane, because even old man Stipe should be able to put up a better fight than that. But to that point, he's just so old and hasn't done anything since getting obliterated by Ngannou over 3.5 years ago. They say power is the last to go, so that's probably the most viable path to victory for him.

This card blows. MSG is supposed to be one of the marquee UFC events of the year, but it looks like a glorified FN.

This is a fight that should have happened many years ago and it would have been one of the biggest and historically important fights the UFC ever had. Now it's....this. Jones is only making it worse by preemptively ducking Apsinall so you can't even say "Well, this was the fight that was supposed to happen before Apsinall was the interim champ, so they will go through with this fight and then Apsinall will get his chance." It's just utter nonsense.

As far as the fight goes, for all the talk about Stipe being 42 and not fighting in 3.5 years (all of which is very valid), I've still got a ton of questions about Jones at HW, being 37 himself, and coming off serious injury. All I know is that I would be absolutely shocked if it's as easy as Gane was for Jones. You can go check my posts leading up to the Jones-Gane fight. I said if Jones wrestled, it would be an easy win for him. I didn't necessarily think he would sub him, especially so fast, but it was a clear...CLEAR...mismatch in that department. He doesn't have that against Stipe. Stipe's old. He'll probably be slow. He might get worn down if the fight goes into the later rounds. I just can't imagine him going out that quickly to anybody....OK, maybe if he fought Francis again he might get KO'ed quickly, but Jones doesn't have that kind of power. Never did.

Stipe is one of my favorite all time fighters and I can't stand Jones, so I'm obviously rooting for Stipe. Having a his Randy Couture moment on top of his accomplished career would be absolutely epic and make all this nonsense worth it. Seems pretty unlikely, though. I've got Jones by UD.

Charlie Olives - Chandler, sure. Why not? Should probably be a fun one again. I'd take Oliveira again since he has more ways to win, but he does get hit and Chandler hits hard.

Craig is a big jump up for Nickal. It will be interesting to see if Nickal tries to take him down given Criag's BJJ or if it will cancel out and turn into a boxing match. I don't really have a sense on how it would go in either case.

Not much interest in the rest.

Put me firmly in the camp that would be shocked if Jones disposed of Stipe as easily as he did Gane.

The thing that makes this fight so interesting is Jones does not have HW power, so even though Stipe is likely past his prime and also rusty, do we really expect Jones to drop him? Hard to envision. Outpounting him over five rounds? Sure, that's easy to envision.

I agree that there are still a lot of questions regarding Jones at HW. To me he just looked like a fatter and slower version of himself. Obviously the skills were still there which allowed it to be a very short night, but if he gets in deep water with Stipe that extra size could prove to be a hindrance.

Nickal seems to be an extremely confident guy. I think initial thought would be don't take the fight to Craig's strength, but my guess is Nickal beats him standing and also has no reservations taking him down.

I'm a Weidman fan so I really hope he doesn't get knocked out, and then retires. It's time.

Who else hopes one of Jones or Stipe gets injured just before the fight and Tom steps in?

Oh who am I kidding, if Stipe or Jones gets injured, neither of them would fight Tom on short notice.
As a Stipe fan, even I would love for Jones to have to fight Aspinall....but I don't think he'd take it.

I'm actually not sure if Stipe would take it or not. I could be misremembering, but didn't he say he would fight him? And it was the UFC who wasn't even offering the fight? I dunno. I could see him being like "f*** this. This was my last fight. I'm not going through another training camp. Give me my money and I'll fight him." I don't think it would go well for him, but I wouldn't be shocked to see him take the fight.

So Jones is saying he will vacate the heavyweight belt to fight Pereira (which would go the same as him vs. Gane) for the BMF belt.

So he's going to vacate a belt to avoid Tom so that he can fight the BMF instead. That is the opposite of being a BMF

I can't believe this guy still has fans.

I'm a huge fan of something getting in the way and Jones-Miocic never taking place. Same for that bullshit tomorrow with Mike Tyson and the internet geek.

I don’t understand why people are so mad about this fight, do people really think the UFC was gonna tell Stipe to get bent after they booked him for a title shot and his opponent got injured? The only mistake they made was making Sergei/Tom an interim title fight in the first place

You're joking right? It's pretty obvious. Reasons have even been mentioned in this thread. I guess AI just doesn't compute.

Hell baby
Jon’s gonna sub Stipe imo

He’s also a duck, the largest duck in world history. Tom is the true heavyweight king.

They’re back to the old gloves PERMANENTLY LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Well, the point is this never should have been booked in the first place. Making an interim belt for the actual contenders when the champion was known to be out for a long time wasn't a mistake either. That was a more legitimate title fight than this.

Once the Jones-Stipe fight fell through last year, they should have made Stipe-Aspinall for the interim title.

The reasons they didn't are obvious, especially with how Jones has been acting the last couple of weeks, but it would have salvaged this mess.
