I think you’ve nailed that guess. Bargain, flawed D capable of PPQB. Maurice and company probably get a few good years out of him.
Curious, what is his value to a team that already has a PP1 guy? Like is he worth big money without the pp upside?
Offence gets paid, Ekblad also makes 7.5 and is worse than both. But I do think the Forsling one would keep him to 6 or less in Florida. Why would Florida give him more than 6 million when they just gave Forsling 5.75. Get him for under Forsling’s contract or let him walk.|.
Yeah but the Ekblad one was signed 7 years ago and they were paying for his potential which he never fully hit for an extended period of time.Offence gets paid, Ekblad also makes 7.5 and is worse than both. But I do think the Forsling one would keep him to 6 or less in Florida.
A lot of rumors Toronto is interested in him.Florida probably tries to re-sign him but if they win the cup, I can see Montour chasing the money.
What kind of contract is your team willing to give him as an UFA? 30 year old RHD, great skater and yapper. PP1 quarterback with a down year in production due to being injured at the start of the year. Last year 70+ points when he finally got the opportunity to run PP1.
What teams want a PP1 RHD other than Florida? Minnesota? They are in cap hell.
If there's no other teams with cap space his market might actually be soft but the comparable is probably the Severson contract (6.25m x 8 or 7m x 7)
I feel like that the Paul Maurice coaching. His biggest value is that he is a tireless minute muncher and can be used against any competition. He's not Forsling defensively but then again nobody is. And the occasional mistake he makes he can cover up with his skating ability. Plays hard, gets into scrums and trash talks regularly.
He's a good PP QB but there are better ones out there. Obviously if he's not used in that role then it affects his value for the team.
Of course. But some team will overpay with term and money.Be should only get 3-4 yrs
There's no way the tax differential and Florida discount is 6 million vs 8.5. More like 7.75 vs 8.5I bet he gets 8-8.5 no problem open market but if he resigns with Florida quick I suspect he does, the favorable tax situation and the extra year mean he could make more off of a 6m x 8 and win something too. It would be hard to beat playing in Florida, especially right now.
OEL always played like a ghoul but isn't known for itI feel like that the Paul Maurice coaching.
Heck, even OEL is out there playing hard and getting into scrums/starting a lot of shit. I didn’t watch a lot of Arizona/Vancouver games, but he never seemed to play that heavy until he came to Florida.
By my math, it’s roughly around 500k or less per season in difference but then another year at 6m because 8 year. It’s very close and he gets to stay put while playing on a winner in a low pressure market with no winter. Just trying to highlight that 6-7m in Florida is better than the 8 he’d get elsewhere IMOThere's no way the tax differential and Florida discount is 6 million vs 8.5. More like 7.75 vs 8.5
Gentle reminder players can only sign for 8 years with the team they’re currently on. So unless we’re talking a sign & trade or a trade before UFA day, he can only sign for a maximum of 7 years.I bet he gets 8-8.5 no problem open market but if he resigns with Florida quick I suspect he does, the favorable tax situation and the extra year mean he could make more off of a 6m x 8 and win something too.
