that was a pretty rough game for Canada, just looked discombobulated out there...not an overall reflection on talent, more so system and coaching IMO

Worst game I've ever seen a Canadian team play, I think. I haven't seen any other games in this year's tourney, so I'm not sure how typical it was.

Could be coaching, could be just a bad day I guess.

That said, I don't think this team has much depth at all.

The initial team is selected almost entirely from teams that don't make the CHL playoffs and in the CHL almost all teams make the playoffs. Therefore, the initial roster is severely limited. We do usually add a few players from teams who get eliminated (such as Glass and Studnicka this year).

But overall we are selecting from a pool that is much less than half our usual pool. Not much can be done about it though, and it's not really anybody's fault. It's just scheduling.

In any case, I'm not sure our '99 born players are all that strong a crop to begin with, even if we could have selected the best of the best.

This is actually a sad situation for Canada. Yes, I know we don't have our best but the refusal of Hockey Canada to address the change in the game in recent years and other nations (especially the USA) to emphasize skating, puck control and positional play at the kids level has greatly hurt the development of our players.

The future of hockey now lies with American players. If you look at NHL rosters the increase in American players has been phenomenal and that will only increase.

Recent news about the change in ice size for kids hockey in Canada will help, but the US has been doing that for years.

It's not on our players, they're only as good as the development system in place. It's on the arrogant, old farts at Hockey Canada.

The plus in this game is we lose, we don't have to play the US, who would destroy us.

Even if we did have our best, we would lose to the Americans.

It's mandatory in a few organizations in Canada now but starting next year it's mandatory
across the country.
