I thought it was Seguin at the draft, and i'd still take him over Hall today. It's still not a big gap. But there were are...

Maybe come down to which of the two holds on at a top level of play for longer, and later into their career, to ultimately settle this one for me.

As with draft Day, ill take the marginally worse centre any day.

For a period of time, I thought it was very clearly Seguin.

I still think it's him, but Hall actually made it quite close, and at certain points, surpassed him.

Good poll.

I had Seguin before the draft, I'm sticking with that now.

Seguin has been more consistent, but Hall had higher peaks. Seguin has a lot of playoff games played, but has been a rather underwhelming player in the playoffs. Hall barely played in the playoffs. Tough to pick one. Looking back though, I wish the Bruins landed Hall instead of Seguin in 2010.

People keep saying Seguin is more consistent but their P/GP favors Hall

Can you elaborate?

Hall's finished with 70 or more points twice in his career Seguin's done it 6 times.

Hall's scored 30+ goals one time in his career, Seguin's done it 5 times.

Seguin can be counted on to play a full season (or close to one) a lot more than Hall.
But the first two points arent supportive of your argument

The third point is true and why I would take Seguin over Hall IF the talent differential wasnt there

Hall, when healthy, scores more and its that simple. Claiming a higher consistency due to injuries is a fallacy because youre portraying it as if Seguins has better stats - when he doesnt

Well, Seguin started slower, being slowly integrated into a powerhouse team, while Hall was instantly expected to be the star of a struggling franchise. But once in Dallas, Seguin had six straight seasons of appr. point-per-game play, until taking a dip in production this past season. That’s consistency. Hall was a point-per-game player in his third and fourth season, then took a dip in the next three seasons, playing closer to 50-60 point pace, and then suddenly won the Hart trophy (followed by an injury plagued season. Not as consistent as Seguin in his Dallas years.

How so? Seguin has produced at a top line level more often than Hall, including I believe 6 straight years of 70+ points. How is that not more consistent?
Because Hall also produced at a top line level and youre misconstruing his absence as a lack of scoring

When a player like McDavid only scores 50 in a year cause he only played 45 games, is that not first line value?

To be fair to Hall he has moved teams and not had Jamie Benn and Alexander Radulov as his partners for about the last half decade

Hall will explode with his next team I assume

But his dip in production came when he was still in Edmonton and continued with the Devils in his first NJ season. And then he suddenly became a 90 point player. So I am not sure it was team related. His career hasn’t been very consistent, there were ups and downs. Whereas Seguins has had a more typical trajectory of starting slow, getting better, then a very consistent prime and seems to starting a decline thus season (we’ll have to see).
And don’t get me wrong, I would rather add Hall to my team than Seguin right now.

McDavid missed 37 games one time in his career. McDavid's actually got a bunch of healthy seasons to prop that up. So no, you're not going to judge McDavid on that one season because 90% of his career he played more than that year.

Hall's got 2 seasons that he was both healthy and produced 70+ points in. Hall doesn't have the track record to say "ignore the injury shortened seasons".
