Which teams will need help reaching the cap floor? Myers will only be paid $1 million in salary (post-bonus payment on July 1st, iirc) and carries a $6 million cap hit.

He also is a big, RHD who can play in all situations and play big minutes (not particularly well, though). He’s basically a #5-6 who can play up in the lineup if injuries strike, but is ideally a bottom pairing guy at this stage in his career.

I am biased as I am a Canucks fan, but I would think he has close to neutral value if the right team is interested? Another element in play is if a dinosaur GM is involved, as Myers was a high draft pick, won the Calder, and has size and “leadership intangibles” (I don’t think these should matter, but sometimes they seem to).

He has a late signing bonus as reported by @mouser of Sept 15th.

I was thinking something around Demko and Myers for UPL and some draft picks.

His value? Should be higher towards the TDL, esp. if he has a contract season career year, and we offer retention on his cap hit.

Possibly as high as a 4th?

May have been Sep 1st, I forget. Either way it was reported to be in September.
Really, a trade can be put in place pending the bonus being paid. Once that is in place the Canucks can spend that 6m as the other team won't be able to back out/extort more without the Canucks filing a grievance and forcing the trade with penalties applied to the team acquiring Myers.

That is incorrect. A trade is only final and formal once it is submitted to the NHL and approved.

In fact, teams making any sort of binding agreement to do a future trade as you suggest would be a CBA violation.

To Van: 7th rounder
To Whom it may concern: Future Considerations (picking T Myers up off waivers)

Is that allowed?

The late bonus payment really throws a wrench in some things. By that point in the offseason, there isn't going to be a lot left for the Canucks to spend that Cap Savings on. At that point, they might just end up keeping him. Or more possibly, searching for a bigger deal to include him in with a lower cap team.

Anaheim just seems like such a natural fit. They're a cap floor sort of team, who could use a big veteran RHD with some physicality to insulate "the kids" a bit. Could be flipped at the deadline for another pick too. But unless there's something Anaheim has that would help Vancouver in September, it gets a little tricky. You almost have to have an "wink wink nudge nudge" agreement in principle in place beforehand, to actually put those Myers cap savings to work before the season opens.

No teams will be struggling to hit the floor. After the bonus is paid he's movable. Could be a good asset to dump at the deadline when bottom feeder clubs move players at the deadline to keep from falling beyond the floor.

Unlikely. Extremely unlikely. No chance a club would be able to pull off a future considerations for purely a draft pick. Everyone and their dog would know whats going on.
