OT: TV Movie Thread Part Iii

If you have Paramount+, pull up the first episode of the original series. The original Captain of the Enterprise, Captain Pike, was a much better actor.

Jeffery Hunter. In retrospect, a lot of things might never have been as he passed away in 1969

The way they hacked that episode up in "The Menagerie" was quite something.

I re-watched "The Wrath of Khan". I like it but it gets silly. Why would Scotty bring a dead body to the bridge? 😂 .
Spock dies. Oldest spoiler use ever. ;)
@majordomo will disagree but Shatner is not the goat actor & not better than Streep. ;)

I also re-watched "First Contact".

Another movie I saw with my dad in the theater. I was only 14-15, but I remember crying when Spock died. It was devastating at the time.

I know a lot of people argue that the Next Generation series was better, but I was way more attached to the characters in the original series. I was obsessed with the original series as a kid. I had all the toys and shirts, etc.

Agreed. I'm starting to see the original series pass ST: TNG in rankings.

Started Succession. I'm eight episodes in and... I'll just politely call it mediocre.

My biggest complaint isn't the characters or subject matter. It is that the show is boring as all hell. Maybe something major happens very soon that takes the show from boring to exciting but, yeah.

MobLand has been fun...albeit a bit out there but what do I know about gangsta life ?

We watched Drop today....and it was OK...it did get a bit far fetched at the end . I kept waiting for him to bring out his big African gun from1923 fame.....he has good taste in blondes .

A simple favor 2 is such a ridiculous premise. So the husband and friend fly to Italy for the lady that tried to murder thems wedding? Why because she threatened to sue them? That is as realistic and believable as Kakko breaking Gretzkys 92 goals in a season record next year. 😠

It's horrible. The writers couldn't even think of clever dialogue so the characters resort to crude insults & profanity. The first one is good.

Keep with it. I remember watching the show when it first aired and I was thinking it was ok, but then gets much better.

I've really enjoyed MobLand so far (and the opening song). Just finished the latest episode. Man, Maeve is pure chaos. Tom Hardy is pretty good. I started watching his new movie on Netlfix, but it doesn't look good.

Was it? It's been a long time. The only thing I remembered was that I didn't really like it back then. I put on the sequel the other day in the background, but it looked ridiculous and I barely glanced at the tv.

First one was good. Tough year to be Blake Lively.

This is the get to know part of the show. By the time s2 starts you will be fully engaged with the characters even if you couldn't stand them in s1. It was widely acknowledged as the best show during its run for a reason but you need to get it to certain level. For example during the last season one of the best scenes that made me stop and rewatch was between kids and where they barely said a couple of words over a couple of minutes - but it was fascinating how much was captured in face expressions, small gestures and sounds. Pure drama

Mob Land is a prototypical G Ritchie show. It's outrageous and over the board in everything. You just got to love it or not. I'm saving this one for later (the last show of his that I watched was The Gentlemen S1 on Netflix)

Did he have anything to do with the show? I thought he just did the movie it was based on. BTW, the best Guy Ritchie movie is Rock n Rolla and I will brook no dissent.

Probably due to Guy Ritchie's involvement in the show (Executive Producer, directed a couple of episodes, and collaborated with the 2 showrunnes/writers).

Originally, the show was supposed to be a Ray Donovan spin-off in Europe. It was even announced as the Donovans, but then they scrapped it, but kept the show revolving around the fixer.

He's the EP, directed a couple of episodes, and works with the writers without a writing credit.

I have to check out RNR again. It's been a long time and I don't remember much about it.

My favorite is Lock, Stock, and 2 Smoking Barrels. He always has a great ensemble cast.
