Yeah I concur pretty much. Although if you look into the stats and how they are derived, a lot of it is absolute nonsense. I remember a couple of years ago people were absolutely adamant that CloseFenwick (or some such bullshit) did X, and then someone with some weight in the fancy stats community proved it doesn't do X, but maybe it does Y - and then suddenly everyone was absolutely adamant about that. I mean if you don't even know what your own stats do - perhaps they don't actually do anything...
I remember there was a defenseman for the Islanders years ago - Andy MacDonald - he had decent fancies, blocked a lot of shots, etc... the team seemed to love him, but they were constantly pinned in their own end when he was on the ice, solely because of his gap control - he just gave you the blueline and then spent the whole shift defending and racking up fancies lol. Perfect Dubas player that one.
There can never be a stat for gap control. There can never be a stat for so many fundamental facets of our game.
