After a long year, it's finally time for my annual draft rankings. In order to avoid a nearly 10,000 word OP, I've included scouting reports for my top 31 on this post and the rest I've done can be viewed at my website at 2019 NHL Draft Final Rankings
I've had at least one viewing of each of the players on this list throughout the year.
Thanks for the continued support, here's my previous annual rankings for laughs -

2017 Final Rankings: Tryamkin's Final Draft Rankings - Top 100 With Analysis
Skaters:
1. RW/C Kaapo Kakko - TPS, Liiga
Speedy Finnish winger whos dazzles off the wing with a skillful offensive package. Good hands and a nice wrist shot with a good release. Has a solid 6’2 frame and can hold his own in physical battles. Plays a smart and fast thinking game which will allow him to transition to the NHL well. Can play center and may develop into a center, has the skillset and style to do so within a year or two.
2. C Jack Hughes - U18’s, USNTDP
A dynamic offensive player with electrifying skill who plays a smart and deceptive game, using his shifty skill to fool defenders and push the pace with strong vision and a good shot. Anticipates the play well and always evaluates the unfolding play accurately with a fantastic hockey IQ. Should mesh better in the NHL than expected, needs the puck on his stick to excel.
3. C Alex Turcotte - U18’s, USNTDP
Speedy center with a strong stride and great playmaking ability. Hustles hard and does not stop working on and off the ice. Plays a strong 200 foot game and is always pushing the pace.
Holds the puck well and uses his body to shield the puck. Despite a lower body injury which shortened his draft year, Turcotte showed some resiliency in his game and showed off his motor all year, working hard to cement his draft status.
4. LW/C Matthew Boldy - U18’s USNTDP
Hard working two-way winger who has good goal-scoring ability. Possesses a high level of hockey IQ and smarts to make smart decisions on both ends of the ice, especially on the back check and helping out on defense, an area of his game that was a sore sight just a year ago. Uses soft hands in traffic and in front of net to find an opening and use his shot. Powerful skater that is hard to knock off the puck with his size and weight. Has the skill-set and ability to be a center down the road.
5. LD Bowen Byram - Vancouver Giants, WHL
Elite skating packed into a two way defenseman who plays a new age game with poise and patience. Jumps into the offensive rush with speed and flare. Knows when to attack and when to stay back, cutting off attacking lanes and playing a smart game on both ends. Has the all around game with enough upside to warrant a top three selection and potential development into a number one option on a defensive core.
6. C Trevor Zegras - U18’s, USNTDP
Flashy center who’s such a fun to player to watch. Agile and silky with flashy moves and great vision with passes. Uses good speed and has the drive and grit to keep the puck on his stick and fight in dirty areas. Shifty playmaker who dazzles on offense creating plays and setting up teammates, while staying active on defense and forcing players to the boards where he excels in board play.
7. RW Cole Caufield - U18’s USNTDP
Great offensive forward with amazing hands and a slick shot. The league is more accepting of smaller players now than ever and Caufield is primed to take advantage of that among the Gaudreau’s and DeBrincat’s of the league. Caufield is one of the most skilled players in the draft, and he’s quite a stocky 5’7 so he holds his own more than his height implies. After breaking Phil Kessel’s scoring record and lighting up the WJC, Caufield is a hot riser on most draft boards.
8. C Kirby Dach - Saskatoon Blades, WHL
Offensive center who uses his body well and can still skate well enough for a big guy. Quick hands with an offense first mentality. Great vision and passing skills with a good wrist shot. Will sometimes pass up a good look to set up his teammates and could develop more of a shoot-first attitude. Could work on his acceleration and first steps to add some explosiveness to his skating.
9. LW/C Jakob Pelletier - Moncton Wildcats, QMJHL
A creative playmaker who is undersized at 5’9, but showcases very fast skating and high end stick handling skill. Likes to hold on to the puck and feel his way around the offensive end, picking out good passes with his high end vision. Needs to gain some strength to protect the puck a bit better, but has a shift quality that helps him navigate past defenders. Solid wrist shot that is used diversely to mix up his options.
10. C/RW Dylan Cozens - Lethbridge Hurricanes, WHL
A power two-way center with a solid defensive game and good offensive skill. Uses his 6’3 frame well to command the center of the ice with a solid blend of power and skill. Has a lethal wrist shot and a great release, sometimes roving to the slot and setting up high screens. Also skates well for his size with a strong stride. Almost always working and using his size, especially down low with solid balance.
11. LW/RW Pavel Dorofeyev - Stalnye Lisy Magnitogorsk, MHL
Offensive winger with multiple talents and solid skating fundamentals with good edges and mobility. Has a quick release and powerful wrist shot. Can act as a playmaker with nice passing at times. Fast hands with good puck skills. Decent skater that could work on his explosiveness and first steps to blast past defenders.
12. C/RW Peyton Krebs - Kootenay Ice, WHL
Smart and fearless, plays a energy-filled game with some skill and drive, one of the safer projected lottery picks. Versatile forward with a high-compete level, safe NHL skills. Creates plays for teammates with playmaking skill and an array of passes. Uses saucer passes and threads the needle often with good vision. Solid wrist shot with a good release used on occasion when defenders respect his speed and back off.
13. RW Vasili Podkolzin - SKA St. Petersburg, MHL
Lethal two way sniper with a not only a great shot, but a good defensive mindset who doesn’t shy away from physical play. Deft hands with good puck skills and great anticipation off the play. Always seems to score highlight reel goals at an incredible pace. Plays a smart game to his strengths.
14. RW Simon Holmstrom - HV 71, SHL
Strong playmaking winger who is under just around 6’0 but plays with the strength you need off of the wing. Good shot with decent release in a dual pronged attack package with good pucks skills. Great speed and edges but needs to work on his one on one and poise, sometimes making wrong decisions.
15. LD Thomas Harley - Mississauga Steelheads, OHL
A very calm, puck moving defenseman who uses his composure and passing skill to effectively distribute the puck to his team and set up scoring chances. Finds good passes through traffic and breaks out the puck well. Skates well from the back end with short bursts of speed and good edges.
16. C/LW Alex Newhook - Victoria Grizzlies, BCHL
Speedy center who can kill you on offense with smooth hands and a deadly wrist shot. Playing in a weak league, Newhook showed some killer instinct, blasting past the 100 point mark with his offensive skill. Newhook’s hockey IQ is a big reason why he can succeed so well, manipulating plays well and capitalizing.
17. RD Moritz Seider - Adler Mannheim, DEL
Solid two-way defenseman with a large 6’4 frame who is solid in the defensive end and provides some decent offense with great vision and solid skating ability for a big guy. Bomb of a shot from the point which can be developed to be a weapon. Potentially underrated offensive skillset due to limited offensive opportunities, although still needs work.
18. RD Victor Soderstrom - Brynas IF, SuperElit
Smooth skating mobile defenseman with solid two-way abilities. Doesn’t shy away from contact despite being sub 6’0. Great at picking out passes with good vision, especially breaking out of the zone. Solid poised decision-maker who could take some more risks and use his skill to jump in the rush more often and make something happen.
19. C Connor McMichael - London Knights, OHL
Goal-scoring center who’s burst onto the scene this year with London. Plays a very smart game with high end hockey IQ and smarts, anticipates the game very well. Loves to get down low and create offense, hustles back hard and plays a decent two-way game. Could put on some strength.
20. LD Cam York - U18’s, USNTDP
A puck-moving defenseman with great skating ability who loves to facilitate the offense with a growing presence. Moves the puck around well and can pick out sweet bullet passes. Owns a solid slapshot and hard wrist shot with a good release that generates some power. Could stand to work on a few defensive oriented issues such as positioning and physicality, but owns the speed and IQ to help out.
21. LD Ville Heinola - Lukko, Liiga
Intelligent puck moving defenseman who is offensively adept and can provide good support from the backend despite his size using his smart play and IQ. Evaluates the play and almost always chooses the best place to pass the puck or move to, resolving in not too many giveaways or pass errors. Skates well and agile, could stand to add a bigger physical presence into his game.
22. RW Patrik Puistola - Tappara, SM Liiga
Creative winger with decent speed and a nice shot, plays a very offensive oriented game with good vision. Doesn’t have very good physical attributes and gets beaten by more physical players, also doesn’t have very good defensive habits yet. High offensive potential.
23. RW Bobby Brink - Sioux City Musketeers, USHL
Lethal sniper who creates tons of chances to finish with a sick wrist shot through his elusive skating and quick acceleration paired with slick hands. A hard working winger who plays with a high level of energy whenever he steps onto the ice. Needs to develop some more strength to win puck battles and stay even better on the puck.
24. C/RW Raphael Lavoie - Halifax Mooseheads, QMJHL
A smooth power forward who plays a smooth game and is very mobile for a 6’4 goal scorer. Uses his stick well with good puck control and lane disruption. Can also use his body well to help develop a play or hold off a defender often. Needs to work a bit on his puck distribution and vision to be a multi-pronged threat on the attack.
25. C Philip Tomasino - Niagara IceDogs, OHL
Hard working center who creates his own offensive with his work rate. Plays a consistent game in which he’s always visible on the ice, chasing after pucks and creating turnovers. Very good playmaker with solid vision and passing skills. Accurate wrist shot with a nice release, could gain a bit more velocity.
26. RW Nathan Legare - Baie-Comeau Drakkar, QMJHL
A hard working power forward who is a dog to play against, possessing a high compete level and some underrated wheels. Has a high level shot that can pierce the net from almost anywhere and a good hockey IQ used frequently.
27. C Ryan Suzuki - Barrie Colts, OHL
Smart playmaker with a wide range of passing skills and vision to pair with his strong hockey IQ. Decent pick skills with a strong motor, projecting similarly to his brother, but more of a true center at 6’0. Has an underrated shot which he could use more often.
28. LW/C Nicholas Robertson - Peterborough Petes, OHL
Brother of Jason Robertson, Nicholas plays a fast game with a speedy element and a powerful wrist shot. He uses a good knowledge of the game and his mobility to impress off of the wing. A smaller player, but one who plays hard and always gives maximum effort.
29. LD Philip Broberg - AIK, Allsvenskan
Modern style raw defenseman with great size and physicality to pair with an all around package of qualities like a good shot and passing combo with good vision and a good reach to disrupt pucks. Needs to work on finesse parts of skating like footwork and acceleration.
30. LW Arthur Kaliyev - Hamilton Bulldogs, OHL
American goal-scoring winger with a bomb of a wrist shot and great scoring abilities. Needs to work on his skating, it seems clunky and slow at times, and he isn’t the most consistent of players. Proven offensive threat with 31 goals in the OHL at 16 years old.
31. LD Marshall Warren - U18’s, USNTDP
Offensively adept and explosive skater are the two key points when it comes to Warren, a player who’s been kept in the shadow of Cam York for most of the season, but his offensive toolbox could be just as potent as most of the guys taken ahead of him. Can grow into a PPQB for a team and uses his IQ and stickhandling ability to get out of tough situations. Hard and accurate shot from the point.
