Apparently that was one of the topics during today’s call between Trump and Putin. The article says “the games between players participating in the NHL and the KHL”.

Hopefully this could be discussed without politics.

Does this give NHL sort of a green light to conduct without any PR repercussions given that a sitting U.S. president publicly approved it ?

St.Petersburg/SKA Arena + Moscow/CSKA Arena
Washington/Capital One Arena + NY/Madison Square Garden or Boston/TD Garden

Would have to be in the summertime and I wonder how many Americans will actually want to do that.

NHL would likely sign off, as long as they get some money for it.

Would anyone actually give a f*** ? I guess they might. Didn't think anyone would at the 4 nations.

Best of 5, or just 4 games 2 in Russia, 2 in the US ?

Can’t imagine the NHL has any interest in doing this.
You can not?

Can you imagine something better from PR/bussiness for NHL (yes, KHL as well) if Ovechkin with broken record will have a tour with Caps in Russia? In December Habs GM attended the SKA Arena in St.Petersburg, the biggest hockey venue in world. Another ideal location for a game. Arabs offered their city, Dubai, as well. But even if not in Dubai, they can bring .... money to the table. Not bad.

You need to understand that world has changed, the KHL has changed. NHL management is clever enough to understand it. It is not a coincident that that news is published now, and how your president behaved to Ovechkin and Bobrovsky when met together.

They just held their own international tourney and didnt include Russia.

The NHL just didnt have Russia in their own international tourney. And people think there would be a chance they would let the players they have under contract go play in a series against Russia lol?
This is an attempt to improve relations between Russia and the West and an attempt to end the war.

I think what happened in the past doesn’t necessarily have to align with what will happen in the future.

If one of Russia’s demands on their side is they want a hockey summit, that seems a pretty moderate ask, no?

If the NHL can help bring about world peace, even in a small way, it’s something they should try to help with.

I don’t see it happening, players aren’t committing to this in the off season.
NHL probably wouldn’t ok it, even if presidents did.

Remember when you said the war would be over in a week several weeks ago 🤣

Can you find that quote then? I don’t think I said that.

I think my opinion that the war will be over relatively quickly will age well. It seems like it’s progressing in the right direction.

If the war is over then there should be no reason to prohibit including Russia. If it's not...then the NHL won't bother. That's the only criteria for the NHL. Otherwise, they aren't going to refuse a free paycheck.
