For years we regretted not resigning Stralman and this was the standard for us in terms of #2 D-pair. Have Trouba/Miller overtaken them?

Edit: I just realized I misspelled Staal's name in the poll results. Why can't I edit?

Eh, this isn’t really fair because Miller isnt in his prime yet.

But if we are going when Staal was in or still close to his prime and Stralman was in his prime with us, then i’m leaning towards them. People forget how dominant staal was on defense.

But Staal/Stralman didn't have the offense of Trouba/Miller I feel like. Also, I'm not a guy that's for toughness for the sake of toughness, they didn't have Trouba's physicality.

Was a different game back in 14 when Staal/Stralman were at their peak with the NYR, but Trouba/Miller is clearly much better. Staal had already suffered the concussions and eye injuries by the time he was paired wit Stralman.

A better question would be, do the Rangers have a Cup if they had the foresight to sign Yandle and Stralman instead of Staal and Girardi? I think yes.

A lot of recency bias in these results.

Staal-Stralman was one of the best pairs in the league.

Miller-Trouba is just everyone and their grandmother's second pair.

People like Miller, and that's fine and dandy, but as a pair, there's absolutely nothing special about 79-8.

Staal-Stralman was an elite shut-down pair. Like elite of the elite. I think Trouba and Miller provide a more balanced pairing in terms of offense/defense but in terms of shutting people down their not on the same level. And honestly, very few are
