Not sure why Sutter has such a big lead and Gallant only has 1 first place vote. Gallant has taken a team that missed the playoffs last year to a likely 110 point season in a tougher division and conference. This all while dealing with a lot of injuries and having Dryden Hunt play second line minutes and scrubs like Gauthier and Mckegg get substantial minutes.

People keep repeating that the Rangers have dealt with a lot of injuries but their top guys have been mostly healthy except a stretch where Shesterkin was injured. I believe they're middle of the pack in the league. I do agree that I don't understand why Sutter has such a lead on Gallant but it has nothing to do with injuries.

When evaluating the job a coach has done you have to look at the roster that they have to work with and therefore injuries do and should matter. They have had a ton of injuries to forwards in particular. Blais, Kakko, Strome, Motte, Rooney, Chytil, Copp for a few games, not to mention Kravs going back to Russia. They haven't played a single game this year with a complete roster. The result was Gallant was working with a roster that had Hunt on the 2nd line, and plugs like Gauthier, McKegg, Brodzinski playing meaningful minutes. The bottom 6 was legit bad and only after the trade deadline was some depth added. Despite all of that the team has played great for the most part and has been top 5 in the league nearly the entire year. He deserves more than 1 first place vote.

I’m pretty sure we’re near the bottom of the league for injuries, especially to core players. Might be the very bottom.
But the Kravtsov factor is significant and should be taken into consideration. Imagine if McDavid went to Russia, where would the Oilers be?

I have a hard time believing we are near the bottom for games lost due to injury.

We are. I’ve seen several posters debunk that narrative with stats, here’s the most recent one I’ve found. I do see a lot of fans claiming we’ve had such bad injury problems but most our core hasn’t at all. I think people just focus on their team and don’t realize what’s going on with other teams.

Not only are we near the bottom for games lost to injury, our circle is also one of the smallest ones too (size = quality of players lost).

Thats surprising to me actually. We haven't iced a full lineup the entire year, and have had to watch Hunt on the 2nd line and AHL plugs like Gauthier and McKegg play alot of minutes. I just remember Blais gone for the year, Kakko missing 40 games, Chytil getting injured every other week, Shesterkin, Motte, etc.

Because the perception is Gallant hasn't done much other than ride Shesterkin. Even though Kreider is having his best year, Trouba his best year with us as well, Miller looks great etc

I wonder how many of those injuries were ‘avoidable’? I mean, due to penalty or dirty plays. It would be a great stat and useful to start translating dirty play into lost revenue. Which is the best way to get the league’s attention and convince them to take real consequential action against dangerous play.
