I am suspicious of his fight choice but I'm not going to lose sleep over it, he is finally starting to contribute offensively this year so I'll take it ...ups his trade value. I think Freddy likes hockey but doesn't love it...gives me that paycheque just do enough to get paid vibe.

Then let someone else overpay for what they think they are getting instead of what they will actually be getting.
UFAs are generally always "overpaid". There are teams out there who he'd be worth more to than he is in Boston.

It's a shame the preseason was such a mess and Montgomery let it all fall apart. A good camp for guys like Max Jones and Tufte could have made moving Frederic for assets a whole lot easier this season. Who knows, a lot can happen between now and the trade deadline.

Another one arguing irrelevant weight totals and ignoring the spot picking bullshit on display by Freddy in that game.

Let's just cut to the chase. What was your view on Freddy fighting instigating a fight against a dude with zero NHL fights? Was that cool or was that weak?
It's a false premise that you attempted to bake into your question. Frederic did not instigate that fight. Both players chose not to back down and both playes wanted it.

I was not happy with the 2nd punch he threw with his opponent down.

To call the weight totals "irrelevant" after attempting to use those same (erroneous) numbers to make your case is just....Jesus, man, just take the L and move on.

Instead, you come across as extremely thin-skinned by trying to move the goalposts to a new place that you can hide behind.

I have been hard on Freddy this season, but he's deserved it, and I would like nothing more than for him to get it into gear, stay there, and make himself too valuable to trade or let walk. You're right, theydon't have someone ready to step into his spot that is any better. I guess they could move Koepke up, or maybe Jones, who seems to be getting into sync in Providence can do it (slim hope there).

Frederic did not instigate that fight.

The two cross-checks to the back off the face-off says he did. The video evidence is pretty clear. Your just burying your head in the sand here saying otherwise. Frederic got exactly what he wanted, he knew how Gustafsson would react (basically how 99.9% of players would react) a chance to punch a player in the face and feel like a big man on campus in a game where his ego was bruised.

Frederic's best attribute is he doesn't have a big cap hit.

Did punch him when he was on the ice. Don't like that and we would all call it bush league if you reversed the jerseys.
Now that’s a fair gripe, but people are acting like he forced Gustafsson into this. I personally don’t really care about an extra punch or two on the ground, especially when it’s an anger/heat of moment fight and not a staged fight (see Zadorov vs Lowry)

I’m sure I called Matt Tkachuk a bitch when he fought Pastrnak but that’s because I hate him and the panthers and will sewer them at any opportunity- that has nothing to do with his actual fight with Pastrnak (which Pastrnak wanted)

My other issue is Trent Frederic's propensity for fighting when it's totally f***ing pointless.

I really don't care if he fights or not. I only care if he's a physical presence on the ice, a guy who can lift the team with a good body check or high-energy shift when they need it.

He never does that. He's a f***ing ghost when it matters, which is why I hate these blowout fights (which I also think he mostly spot-picks in a pretty gutless way). Fighting when it doesn't matter makes his earlier useless even more frustrating.

I think he's gone no matter how he plays - if he doesn't continue with his strong play of late they won't want him and if he does he will price himself out when every team in the league can make an offer.

This is a false equivalency argument.

A couple short cross-checks off the faceoff (which the ref watched and deemed not worth a penalty) is nothing like truly instigating a fight (hence, why there was no instigator penalty). Gustaffson could have skated away but came back with a cross-check of his own and continued to engage until they both dropped the gloves.

Post Hoc Ergo Proptor Hoc actually describes the argument here being made.
Frederic got exactly what he wanted, he knew how Gustafsson would react (basically how 99.9% of players would
So, you now claim to know what Frederic was thinking?

You think 99.9% of players in the NHL have fought before --or that the rabbit crosschecks were so horrific that it was a "must fight" situation?

But yet you were the one who originally brought up weight totals as a means to show someone else was wrong. Why was it relevant when you were the first one to roll out his recent opponent's weight totals and but it's suddenly irrelevant now?

Nah. I kept hearing how he fought heavyweights so I looked into it. And like I said already, and without arguing about sources for weights and accuracy, he’s usually fought dudes smaller than himself. That’s simple fact. I stand behind my statement that he’s a spot picker and weight bully.

Again, I didn’t bring weight into it. I responded to people claiming he fought heavies. When I looked into it, it didn’t hold true. He fights guys that are usually smaller than him, which is the majority of his fights. As for weight being irrelevant, it’s not so much that it doesn’t matter. What doesn’t matter is where you source the info from. Which is what some people were quibbling with. Like oh, I don’t agree with your source was a strong counter to that display the other night being dumb. It wasn’t. It still isn’t, and it won’t change the gutless nature of what he does 99.999999% of the time.

When you fight your adrenaline is off the charts, there is no emergency push button.

Linesmen tap, almost snapping you back to reality. "the fight is over"

No excuse just the reality of it.

Just call it for what it is, dude. You went for a dunk on a poster and player you dont like and you missed the rim.
