Training Camp

Your right, but I don't think we really need Moore AND Boyle, and there's literally no use for Pyatt he doesn't bring much to the table.

I'd err on the side of more depth. Callahan and Hagelin already are missing the start of the season. All you need is one knee/ankle/shoulder and things could change in a hurry. I'd rather use Pyatt than force a guy into the line up who isn't ready like Miller last year who seemed to just tread water, and lost a year off of his ELC. There's always waivers/trades if you end up with too many bodies or young guys force their way into the line up.

Lindberg has always been a great face-off guy. He hasn't played in the NHL yet but I suspect he's going to be really good with draws. Whether he takes a spot coming out of camp remains to be seen but he had an excellent season in the SEL last year and I'd have to think he's got a decent shot or at least as good a shot as Miller or Kristo. If Lindberg were to make the Rangers moving Boyle to left wing at least some of the time is not necessarily a bad thing. Boyle is a good face-off guy and an important pk'er but at even strength as a center he lacks creativity. Coming off the wall instead takes pressure off of him--camp out front of the other teams net and let the puck come to him. Rangers experimented a bit with him as a wing last year and IMO he looked a little better there as far as involved in the offensive zone than he had as a center.

Injuries. Also if you list out the teams PKer,s it becomes VERY evident that they needed Moore.

Boyle
Callahan (injured)
Stepan
Hagelin (injured)
Dorsett
_______

Pouliot, Pyatt, Kreider, Richards, Asham, Brassard do not PK. I am sure they would like to keep Nash off of the PK to reduce his minutes over 82 games. Same with Stepan.

Moore helps fill a big hole in that department and he can play wing or center. That is going to be a very underrated signing until the season starts.

I think its clear the way management had to use Miller and Kreider (even Thomas' call up) really caught them with their pants down. The Rangers lack of depth was exposed badly. Rectifying that was behind every move this summer...no big fish but a decent amount of cheap little ones. Stepan looking like he's getting the bridge special (maybe modified to 3 yrs like the Giroux contract) is another part of this - as much flexibility as possible.

If I had to guess, I would say Kristo and Miller will start with the team due to the injuries. Fast and Lindberg push but need some time in the AHL to get used to the NA ice surface.

Why either when Halpern is out there?

Ha, that "Anybody but Boyle" routine is still at it in the off-season.

Dominic Moore, coming off an unspeakable family tragedy and having not played NHL hockey in over a year = a definitive better option than Boyle.
