Miller is another one on the defensive side. Big paws on the puppy. If he hits his ceiling he can be quite a player.
That’s why getting guys with size that can play are a premium. Smaller PMD are way way easier to find.
Look at Niku on waivers. He didn’t perform terribly in the AHL, quite the opposite.
Same reason why guys like Zub have supplanted Brannstrom on OTT depth chart.
It’s not just the size that matter, but we’ve seen over and over GMs taking bigger players hoping they put it all together.
It’s why you make the Trouba/Pionk trade 10 outta 10 times. Finding a trouba is harder then finding a pionk

Not to mention we have more more big players coming who are also amazing or atleast great skaters.

Huh? No, people were absolutely questioning Fox's position on the PP1 during the first half of last season. You might not remember it, but it was happening a fair amount.

I'm sure a few people were and they were wrong.

And there's no reason he couldn't play on the PP2, with whomever on the PP1, giving Fox more time in other situations. It's what Oiler's do with Nurse, who's definitely their best offensive Dman, it's what Dallas does with Heiskanen, what Boston did with McAvoy, what Vegas did with Pietrangelo. And yea, they all have a very good 2nd offensive D option. Which doing such a thing requires. But that's the entire basis of what I said.

He's the best powerplay QB in the league so that's one reason he couldn't play on PP2

Obviously if Lundkvist and/or Jones or whomever, don't prove themselves deserving of PP1 minutes, then they wont get it.

They would have to be better than the best powerplay QB in the league to do that.

Of all the "doing something for the sake of doing it" posts I've seen in this site, this one takes the cake.

Let's just take a guy out of a role he's the best in the league at because, because WHY NOT!!!

And not that I want MSG to follow suit but the in game experience in Tampa, Vegas and Columbus is fantastic for the "casual" fan... I am going to go out on a limb and say that Seattle will go even further in that area. MSG is what it is... their product is what it is... christ their studio is a closet for all intents and purposes. It was a HUGE step for them to have the interview area w the player walkway behind them... prior to that, that interview area WAS a closet... literally.

I've been to 11 NHL arenas so far, and MSG always reminds me of an opera building. Fans sit down, and just wait to be entertained, which is weird growing up in a culture of supporting your team. Cheering even harder if you are down a goal, singing and chanting all game long.

That's just not a thing at MSG. It's a beautiful arena though.

The price of tickets likely has a lot to do with it with a lot of seats owned by companies and not true fans. You go to a game in Winnipeg it's night and day the amount of actual fans in the seats.

So in Panarin's media availabilty we got our answer to why Kreider is always Zibs winger, seems as though Mika wants him there.

So excited for the pure entertainment value of Reaves. He will have some great hits vs the debbies and fish d*cks.

Wasn't always like that. My hope is that it gets more raucous as these home grown kids come into their own and some pride comes back.

Been to 8 myself and making it 9 next weekend for the NYR/BOS preseason game... I'm not counting the old Boston garden, Maple Leaf Gardens, the Brendan Byrne Arena and Hartford Mall lol

Edit: I forgot the old Spectrum in Philly... that place was fun.

Some of these kids will never set foot in Nassau Coliseum or even Barclays Arena. They will know only UBS Arena. Crazy.

How would you rank them from best to worst?

I’m expecting my Reaves to play 60-70 games minimum. I do expect other guys in and out of the lineup. I’ve discussed this in the past, this teams needs to learn and develop a push back and ability to be the aggressor. That’s not something that often comes naturally for skilled players but it’s absolutely necessary come playoff time.

I mean, it matters to an extent. Like Hayes and Miller letting their teammates go 2v5 because YOLO was obviously a worse strategy.

The thing is that you can teach anybody who can stand in skates to go into a basic prevent setup.

These setups aren't particularly good, they're done out of necessity, and having great players do them doesn't make it particularly better.

It's sort of like first base. Baseball analytics kill first basemen defensively. That's not because they don't have an influence; it's because anybody who plays baseball at a professional level should be able to play first base.

The forwards may have more of a role. You mentioned faceoffs and they score almost all of the shorthanded goals which is the most valuable thing you can do on the PK.

On defense, anybody who in plays in the NHL should be able to do it. I have no reason to believe Fox is going to be better at swinging his stick side to side and getting hit with shots then Patrik Nemeth.

Maybe Staal was particularly bad and that's just because Staal hasn't put any effort into anything since 2011. Anybody trying can do it and it's not worth the injury risk.

Here's my practical response: When Fox doesn't defend his reigning Norris Trophy title because his minutes don't compare, because he doesn't kill penalties, we'll all be looking at you. ;)

MSG is replaying the game against the Isles where Mika loses control of the puck stickhandling on a breakaway.

Prudential Center? Well, I guess the fan experience is good when you can move down to the more expensive seats because fans don't show up.

I'm sure a few people were and they were wrong.

Because when something potentially better comes along you give it a try. Unless you are winning the Stanley Cup every year or in this situation scoring on almost every power play there is always a chance something can be improved upon. How many fans thought Fox was better on the pp than Tony D last year before he was unceremoniously booted? With your type of thinking Fox should never been given an opportunity if Tony D was still on the team. The pp did well, maybe even great with Fox on it but that does not mean it could not be improved with someone else taking his place. The best pps are the ones with threats from everywhere. A player like Nils would add something Fox will likely never possess.
