Cuz we need "truculance"

Don't you see him hop on the ice everytime marner is hit?

I mean we can get that whenever we want I think. I don't think he gets picked up if waived

yeah ZAR is an automatic tbh.

but regardless of whether they sign him or not the Leafs still need to make a trade to get under the cap at some point.

yeah based on the lines at camp so far Simmonds hasn't been anywhere near a regular-looking line, and the Leafs don't have room to carry a 13th F.

I agree. I don't really see a use for him ATM I can't see him getting picked up either

Willy at C!

Nice!

HF endless argues about Malgin vs. Robertson, and here they are on a line together.

I too like seeing Willy at C. Once Tavares comes back, if somehow these lines work, we could have three good offensive lines.

Just further confirmation on the extras.

""

I wonder when we start sending guys down through waivers? Between these extras, and those that didn't even make the trip... it's close to time. Keep a couple of extra guys, but...

Assuming Tavares and Liljegren go to LTIR, we start with this, plus a couple of extras. Probably Mete and Gaudette, to not lose Gaudette right away to waivers. Room to run with Simmonds as an extra as well.

Yeah camp couldn't have gone better in terms of the forwards this year in terms of what I was hoping to see.

Exactly what I wanted to see from the 3rd and 4th lines, and Keefe has been pretty clear that that's what he wanted from day one, and now he's gone as far as to put Willy at 2C in order to keep his bottom 6 vision in place. Gotta love it.

Both Robertson and Malgin have clearly earned the chance to start so it's nice that both will get a 5gm window against real competition to show they belong before we make a tougher choice.

The only potentially interesting variation of these lines that I might be interested in seeing is Engvall and Robertson switched....but tbh if Robbie can be dynamic offensively I like him riding shotgun on an offensive line and Engvall helping that 3rd line to be a good defensive presence.

The D i'm not quite as happy with - I was hoping to see the Muzz-Brodie pair continued. At the same time I don't hate him trying to rekindle Muzz-Holl either.

Malgin and Robertson looked good on a line with Holmberg. Makes sense to try this. Try it until Tavares comes back. I’ll let Pridham lose sleep over how the cap works out. He probably already has it sorted, just need to sit back and be amazed.

I actually like those lines well apart from Muzzin and Holl reunited.

Bottom six looks good. Let Malgin and Robertson fight to stay in the lineup. Give Nylander a chance at centre and determine if it's worth trying Tavares on his wing when he gets back.

I'd imagine we're waiting to send guys down till after the back to backs against Detroit.

Any idea which game will be the main squad and which the Marlies guys?

It's in their best interest to go back to Muzzin-Brodie IMO, puck escapes sooner, Muzzin's body takes less abuse.

i'd guess the main guys get the first game to give them maximum recovery time before the back-to-back to start the season, but that's a guess.

Intersting lines and I am interested in seeing them.

Kampf line defensive zone starts
Kerfoot line neutral zone starts
Nylander line offensive zone starts

Very good sign for both Robertson and Malgin making the team that all those other bubble guys are in Grey.

But we'll see who they shift to C to replace Tavares.

Yes looks that way .. JT likely on LTIR for 10 games and Robertson and Malgin get an official 10 game tryout .. one of those likely sticks on JT's wing .. Wayner will stay on roster as 13th for those 10 games as 23rd man .. then decisions (trade) gets done

If Tavares is ready, one of those guys has to come out though... but we can fit one in with Lilj on LTIR, and ZAR taking an $850k contract. Once Lilj and Tavares are back... we are going to have to make a trade.

Even just moving out Holl or Engvall out does the job. As would Kerfoot clearly. It seems one of the three is going to have to go, at some point this season, unless we run LTIR the whole time.

Reactions: JT AM da real deal
I think they have no choice but to put Malgin on team to begun if they want to see if he can stick. He's average at everything kerfoot and Robertson is personally best at and hasn't shown enough for us to go with a soft scoring oriented third line. I don't know why team like Leafs would even need to consider having one when GF is not an issue and GA was. This team is setup in a way that traditional top 6 bottom 6 works very well. Goalie or defence issue, it doesn't matter to figure out which one was wrong, a hard to play against defensive 3rd line will help the GA be lower than last season more than a scoring 3rd line with malgin.

So why I say he needs to make team is because these opponents in pre season are no good to see if he got better. Dubas like Malgin a lot because you can give him puck in dzone and he can carry it into ozone without issue for you. He couldn't stick last time because he was lost on the ice otherwise.

To actually see if he improved at the NHL level you have to start him when season begins. You can't base on pre season where you already know without watching games he will put up points in his role against these teams. Need to see if he still gets lost when teams have their systems in place. ***Doing what you expected him to do can be seen as him passing round 1. Round 2 is now NHL games when season starts then you decide

If he did improve in that aspect Robertson no longer has a clear lead for the top 6 role
I don't see GA as an iasue in the playoffs.

The issue has indeed been GF. Especially in elimination games.
