I don't know what analytics he was looking at, but their PK numbers were pretty much universally horrible across the board no matter what time period you filter it for. Maybe not in goals against, but that got better once Igor came up. The PK didn't change. This is something Martin can help.

They still sucked defensively over the last 20-30 games too. Not as much as they did over the first 40-50 so yeah that was trending in the right direction but they went from bottom 2 in the league to the end of the bottom 10. Baby steps were made there though, this was an improvement made independent of Igor (I do wonder how much his ability to move the puck impacted this) and maybe with the added experience+no Lindy Ruff (Putting him in charge of a defense is like putting Gasoline in charge of preventing forrest fires) they can push closer to league average.

This has been a shitty defensive team since Torts left though. Even in AV's first season here they were pretty bad, they just generated more than they allowed 5v5 and had a killer PK.

It sends the message that while you're the #1OA, nothing is handed to you here. You start on the third line, even if it's for show ultimately. Surprised, however, TDA is already being tried on the left side.
