GDT: Training Camp 2021: Everyone Else Too Lazy to Make a Thread

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
With his bonuses, he was going to have to leave no doubt about his spot on the team to make it.

This is a big part of it. He would count against the cap for 1.775m and it's tough to fit that under the cap with our current set up, assuming they want 2 extra bodies on the team.

It will be interesting to see how teams handle the taxi squad and what the possibilities are. We all speculated about what it can be like on paper, but real-life transactions would be a bit tougher. Someone on Twitter went on a mission explaining how they can save millions in cap space by having Lafreniere, Shestyorkin and Kakko on the taxi squad on non-game days, but they would lose roughly 60% of their salary by doing so. I doubt any team would treat their top prospects that way.

Yea I saw that but I highly doubt they would do that to the three of them. The extra cap space you get to allow you to roster the extra player is not even close to worth risking ruining the relationship with one of them.

Exactly. No team is going to "rob" their top prospects of NHL salary just to save some cap space. That's all fantasy land and all fun and games to discuss on Twitter but it's never happening in real life

The first thing that came to mind reading that Mantis quote from DQ was Zucc being compared to a Lizard. Need to get him back for the buddy cop show spin-off "Lizard and the Mantis".

I'm aware, why though? I guess it's a rhetorical question, just find it funny when minutes after camp technically ends it's disclosed anyway.

Supposedly, there were also at least 2 or 3 negative tests, some flu-like symptoms, but a delayed positive. So who knows about the timing.

He was also apparently around someone who had it, with a delay in that person actually knowing they had it as well.

That is a lot of "ifs". Lett's go on the assumption that Kakko is exactly who we believe he is and gets to that point sooner rather than later. So now you are left with Kravstov and Gauthier? The next goal that Gauthier scores will be his first. He is one of those players who are going to be looking at "up or out". Is he even top-6 material? Maybe, possibly one year. But right now? Not even close. And there is nothing to indicate that top-6 production is coming anytime soon. Kravstov? Again, even if we ass-u-me that he becomes what we all hope he becomes, that might not be for another 3-5 years. He has yet to play a second of NHL time so believieng that he is ready to push Buchnevich is quite a stretch.

Fact is, for at least the foreseeable future, I see no real competition for Buchnevich on the right side. Kreider COULD switch, but there has been no attempts at that in camp and it is entirely debatable if he would be successful at it.

All valid points. But if Laf tears it up, how long will he play on the 3rd line? If KK breaks out and Kreider moves to the right side, then Kravtsov and Gauthier don't even really come into play. Time will tell.

Forwards seem pretty straight forward:
Kreider-Mike-Buch
Panarin-Strome-Kakko
Laf-Chytil-Gauthier
Lemieux-Howden-Di Giuseppe

D, I guess:
Miller-Trouba
Lindgren-Fox
Johnson-ADA
but I think Miller and Lindgren might flip at one point or another

Shesty

Is Smith not on the team anymore? I haven't been paying attention.
