Giving 19 or 20 year olds captaincy is a good way to make sure you don’t make the playoffs for a while and at the same time give a responsibility to a child that shouldn’t have it
I disagree wholeheartedly. If someone is ready, they are ready.

It’s interesting because Jagr was captain for 2 years and Drury was captain for 3 years. So it is not like the Rangers are against short term captains as a rule. But it is awkward to demote someone from C to A, and I don’t think the Rangers have plans to move Kreider or Zibanejad anytime soon.
we should just name brendan smith captain already and get over it.

yeah and so was McDavid and Crosby, difference is those teams were garbage rebuild from scratch teams with no veterans that had any future with the team. We already have Panarin, Zib, Kreider, and Trouba here for the long haul.
Yeah but if one of those guys are going to be captain why would they keep waiting?

There’s been other young captains too. Toews, Sakic, Yzerman, Lecavalier, Brown, M. Richards, Nash I think. Eichel?

You don’t name a guy who shows up 65% of the time captain, no matter how good he is when he shows up. That’s literally the opposite of leading by example.

I don’t understand how people have difficulty grasping this.

What kind of message does it send to the guys when it’s Round 1 of the playoffs and your captain is inexplicably a ghost?

Not much in today's NHL...

Zibanejad aint getting it. Get serious. He doesn't even respond to JR's emails.

the thought of Bruins tanking the shortened season and winding up with the #1-10OA :puke:

Sabres could bounceback. I wouldn't totally discount them. That many roster changes normally don't work but the Eric Staal - Jeff Skinner reunion could go well. Actually reunions usually don't go well either but they have 2 decent lines and more experience overall. They had two season halves of total domination before inexplicably nose-diving so their team is capable of winning.
2 decent lines and not much else for the rest of the lineup and they are in the group of death with us. They are going nowhere.

I’ve met them and Nick, the bassist is a huge Ranger fan. I’ve talked hockey with him.

I actually had a Rangers themed Violent Gentleman shirt of theirs too.

I had heard they are Rangers fans especially Nick, he wears Rangers stuff a lot. That’s why I suggested they should play Bayside at workouts.

I live in NC, I was gonna go see them this past summer on tour, but, well, you know.

Would be cool to see the band get some run with the team in some capacity, use their music on MSG, play at an event, something.

The Rangers have like the highest variance projection in the league with huge amounts of uncertainty on many of the key players.

They just need to replace the anchors. Get Smith and Johnson out of the lineup and have Kakko be decent and the team is off to the races, by his model. He also did not take into account ADA switching to the left which he said in the comments makes him feel way better about everything on D.

theyre not at 19 or 20 is my point. And guessing they might be because they’re top prospects isn’t evidence of being ready.

While this can be and probably usually is the case, what’s your answer to Landeskog, Toews, Crosby, etc. who were all like 19 year old captains.

For all the (well deserved) crap that Smith gets, he is apparently a real leader in the locker room.

It's either (1) the reason he's there or (2) the only nice thing anyone can say about him.

Sorry guys, I really don't want to read back through all the pages. Has there been any reporting on kakko and what kind of shape he's shown up in? Weight wise? Where his fitness tests came in, especially his legs. Curious if he put the time in to help take that next step.

I know we have question marks and play in a tough division, but why is not one expecting anything? We were a bubble team last year and added a top prospect and didn't lose too much. Our goal should be playoffs no questions asked.
Every year the goal is to be at least a playoff team. Anything can happen. Especially in a shortened season if the team gets hot. But they are far too young and not battle tested enough to be a serious cup contender. 2nd year coach, tons of rookies and young players and a coach on his 2nd year. Hardly a favorite for the cup or even the eastern conference championship but like I said anything is possible and a team could get hot and go on a run. But there are too many question marks for them to be considered a serious cup threat
