After 2C and 1LD the next area is the coach. I love how Joe Judge and Tom Thibodeau have made an immediate impact on there respective teams and wonder if Dave Quinn will be able to mature into a coach that can manage a team to a championship.

And this would make the most sense. I don't see a likely scenario where it's an either/or scenario. I would imagine a situation where we may see Howden/Barron swip-swap at times with Lemieux on the other side. Probably with Rooney as the option to all of them

Outside of the first month of the season, the Isles were a sub .500 team last year. They're old, slow, untalented (if Barzal holds out into the season they arguably the least talented roster in the league) and their bubble "magic" doesn't really change any of that.
File me under the people who think they are not a playoff team this year. Believe it or not, the Rangers were better than the Islanders for the large majority of the 2019-20 season, and the Rangers weren't exactly a world beater.

Kreider should be captain over Mika especially since who knows if Mika will be here. unless we just wait for Laf to be captain within 2-5 years mark my words.

Smitty blows away Johnson. Hes a lot more valuable to this team than people give him credit for. One of the very few that will throw down his gloves to protect his teammate. Many, many here, still have a hard on for coming into camp out of shape. Yeah, I was pissed too, but get over it already. I like him, and not very many would switch.....check that..... PLAY 2 positions at a moments notice. That in itself is Mastercard priceless.

Also Smitty is basically the resident dad off the ice for the young players. He's taken each and every one of the kids on this team under his wing on the road, at home, etc and is well liked in the room. His contract sucks but there's nothing we can really do about that now. If he can provide value in other ways and contribute off the ice while hes on the roster we'll just have to live with that.

Yeah if Smith was making $2M or less I'd be totally fine with him. He provides versatility (L-R and F-D) and toughness. I think he did an admirable job playing F and despite playing way above his head did a similarly admirable job when he had to step into big minutes with Trouba down the stretch.
As a combo #6/7 and 13th F, I think he's actually a nice piece.

If we’re not giving captain to Laf yet, and we had to make a decision, I don’t see how you don’t give it to Mika. I really don’t understand the Kreider for captain argument at all. He’s always been a quiet guy, and yea before you say lead by example, so does Mika....so what else does he bring to the table besides soon being our third best left winger?
